LLI

LLI stands for Leveled Literacy Intervention. It is a powerful, short-term intervention that provides daily, intensive, small-group instruction, which supplements classroom literacy.

First Grade:

First graders are learning so much this school year in language arts literacy. This is a very exciting year for students because they grow tremendously as readers and writers. Although my lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of individual learners based on data from various assessments, there are some common themes among the skills or concepts that I teach first graders. See below for some examples.

• lowercase and uppercase letter identification and formation

• consonant and vowel sounds, blends/digraphs, short vs. long vowels

• one to one match (Can your child point to each word in a sentence?) (Levels A-C)

• tracking print with eyes (levels D and on)

• rhyming

• segmenting words

• sight word recognition and automaticity (First grade word wall words that have been introduced by classroom teacher are being practiced)

• reading strategies: decoding, fluency, comprehension

• writing skills: capitalization, spacing, spelling, punctuation, organization

Second Grade:

2nd grade students are continuing to work on the skills listed above if they have gaps in these areas.

They are also learning how to respond to comprehension questions in writing. We are using supporting evidence from the text when answering questions. Second grade students are learning about different comprehension skills such as making predictions, inferences, answering literal and inferential questions, retelling a fictional story, summarizing a story, and recalling important details from an informational text.
