Members of the Quill and Scroll Honor Society must be chosen from students enrolled in the high school who, at the time of their recommendation, meet the following requirements:
They must be of sophomore, junior, or senior classification.
They must have the equivalent of a B grade average, or be in the upper third of their class in general scholastic standing, either for the year of their election or for the cumulative total of all high school work.
They must have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school media work. They may be staffers of a magazine, newspaper, yearbook, news organization, online site or radio/television station at the school, or one conducted by an external organization.
They must be recommended by the supervisor or by the committee governing the media.
They must be approved by the Quill and Scroll Associate Director.
Colonia's Chapter of Quill and Scroll includes The Declaration Newspaper, PTV and The Arch Yearbook. Each advisor has their own requirements for nomination.
The Declaration Newspaper Requirements:
Taken and passed both Journalism 1 (Intro to Journalism) and Journalism 2 (Multimedia Journalism). By this point, students should have a minimum of 20 articles published.
Have been an active member of the Newspaper club for 3- 4 years and have published 20 articles.
Exhibits good writing techniques, avoids plagiarism in all its forms, avoids AI and all works published seek to provide the facts and the truth.
The Arch Yearbook Requirements:
You must be at least a Junior
2. You must have at least an A- grade point average
You must have produced superior work in some phase of journalism or design - designing layouts, taking photos, etc.
You must voluntarily take on additional tasks; such as, staying after school for photographs or other work, fixing/editing other spreads, etc.
You must consistently demonstrate leadership qualities.
PTV Requirements:
Three years of service to PTV consistently
Be a senior
In charge of compiling a list of Fun Facts for each day we are in school
Good academic standing of B+ or better for the three years
