The mission and the purposes of this organization are as follows:
To promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies among high school students.
To provide opportunities for exploration in the social studies in secondary school environments and the community.
To encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.
Colonia High School is officially a chapter of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honors Society. The name, RHO KAPPA, is taken from two words Semitic origin. RHO is derived from “resh” meaning “head” and KAPPA is derived from “kapf” which means “palm of the hand.” Both these terms symbolize the firm belief that knowledge without service is useless.
In order to become eligible for Rho Kappa, students must achieve the following:
Average letter grade of an "A-" (2035 Quality Points) in all subject matters.
The total score between World, USI, and USII must be an 11.5 or higher.
If student doesn't meet the criteria above, he/she may also be eligible by scoring at least a "4" on the US History AP exam their junior year.
R Track: A+ (4.25), A (4), A- (3.75)
*Anything lower than an A- doesn't qualify as a score
AP: A+ (4.75), A (4.5), A- (4.25), B+ (4), B (3.75), B- (3.5).
*Anything below a B- doesn't qualify as a score.
Members must continue to demonstrate the standards of character that were the basis for his/her induction to membership. Any member who shows blatant disregard for school policy will be dismissed from membership. This includes, but is not limited to, those who have used illegal drugs, alcohol or tobacco on school property or during a school-related function, been involved in a cheating incident, received an out-of-school suspension, been truant, been defiant to an administrator, teacher and/or staff member or been convicted of a crime in a court of law.
Only those who are going to be seniors are eligible for the History Honor Society
During the summer months, Mr. Biri will calculate who is eligible and then personally notify the student during the first week of school
In order to become an "official" member, students will have to participate in ONE event or provide a service related to Social Studies (list will be posted)

Students must complete their service hours before the Rho Kappa Induction Ceremony
