Grit isn't talent or luck.
Grit isn't wanting something really badly in a given moment. Talent and luck have an impact on success however, grit is just as important. It is having passion and perseverance for long term goals. A person who is "gritty" doesn't give up on their goals because of a setback, they don't view not accomplishing a goal as "failure" they view it as "not yet."
There is a difference between grit and self control.
Example of grit: overcoming obstacles and graduating high school
Example of self control: not going to the movies with your friends because you need to study for a test
develop new interests
set goals and steps/strategies to achieve those goals
connect your work to something bigger than yourself
have mentors, coaches, parents, and teachers that help you strive to be "gritty"
perseverance when you don't accomplish something is a must, think "not yet" rather than "failed"
