Health and Wellness
Welcome to Health and Wellness! In class, we will study people's physical, social and emotional health. Throughout the three years, students will learn about the importance of being healthy, how to be healthy and how to maintain overall healthiness.

All students are expected to complete work on time unless absent or arrangements have been made with me beforehand.
If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what was missed and make it up in a timely manner.
In 6th Grade Wellness we learn all about healthy relationships and conflict resolution. Within those topics we discuss how to effectively communicate, how to be a good listener, bullying, and family types. We discuss the health triangle which consists of physical, social, and mental/emotional health. Next we learn what Goal Setting is and how to set a goal so you can succeed Then we learn about risks and refusal skills for nicotine, tobacco, and alcohol. Finally we learn about the reproductive system and pregnancy. We define the different parts of the reproductive system, how a baby develops and is delivered, the complications that can occur and the difficulties of being a teen parent.

In 7th Grade Wellness, we learn all about diseases. We start off by discussing infectious diseases, what they are and how to avoid them. Students then learn about first aid and what to do in an emergency. We then talk about different types of diseases and disorders. The topics range from mental to physical disorders. We discuss what each disease is, how to treat them, and how to treat people who have them. Finally we talk about what Advocacy is and how students can be an advocate for things like clean drinking water and providing food for children who have limited resources.

In 8th Grade wellness we learn about several different topics. We start of the rotation learning about different types of drugs, what addiction is, refusal skills, and how to get someone help. After learning about drugs, students learn about self esteem, body image, and eating disorders. We then discuss we learn about relationships and abuse. Within this unit, we discuss types of relationships, gender identity, healthy vs unhealthy relationships, types of abuse, and how to help someone who is in an abusive relationship. Finally students learn about Sexually Transmitted Infections. We talk about what STI's are, how to treat them, and how to avoid them.
