In kindergarten, we use Seesaw Learning Portfolios to capture and share learning. We have been using this digital platform for the past ten years, and have found that it is an excellent tool to open up our world to you. You will receive personalized information about accessing your child's digital portfolio was we begin our school year together.
If you need to reach one of the teachers, email is often the best place to start. While we do check our email throughout the day, please keep in mind that once the school day begins, our focus is fully on the children. Any communication that is time sensitive should be discussed as early as possible. If a communication is urgent, please call the office and they will help us to communicate.
Pick Up Patrol is used to communicate absences, late arrivals, early dismissals, and changes in daily end of the day dismissal. If you know your child will be leaving early, please try to put this information into Pick Up Patrol as soon as possible. Similar to email, we try to check Pick Up Patrol during the day. However, we often have meetings or commitments during our end of the day prep time when students are at their specials. When we know ahead of time, we will always try to ease an early dismissal request by having your child packed and ready before going to specials.

During specials, children have the opportunity to explore a variety of learning opportunities to expand academic curriculum, as well as student understanding about themselves and the world we live in together. Please contact individual specials teachers for any specific questions about their classes.
Kindergarten students eat lunch in the cafeteria each day. Children may bring or buy lunch. If your child is bringing from home, please make sure to label his/her lunchbox and practice opening and closing all packaging and containers.
We consider lunchtime in kindergarten to be an important part of growth and development in kindergarten. From gaining independence, to trying new foods, to social conversation, we carefully observe and scaffold positive experiences in the cafeteria. We are fortunate to have had several special events during our lunch time in the past including:
5th grade Buddy Lunch Days
Lunch and Learn Presentations and Healthy Food Tasting through our PTO
Chef prepared meals through Machio's Food Services.
School lunches are purchased through Maschio's Food Services. Children may set select from the daily menu that is posted. We ask that kindergarten students who are buying lunch communicate their daily food preference using lunch tickets (see button below for printable link). Kindergarten students have the option of purchasing milk only to go with their lunch from home. They do not purchase any additional separate daily snacks during their lunch time in the cafeteria.
Please contact Vivian Leach vleach@wtschools.org for more details and protocol for lunch buyers.
Kindergartners enjoy a daily snack time. Please send in a small, healthy snack that can be easily eaten in the classroom. While children may have nut products in our cafeteria, our classrooms are Nut Free. Therefore, no nuts or peanut butter products may be eaten in the classroom. For the safety of our children, please check all labels. Snacks may come to school in your child’s lunchbox or be packed separately.
We also ask that children bring a fresh water bottle each day. There are refilling stations at school if needed. Please make sure that your child's water bottle has a top that fully closes, and is light enough to carry comfortably. Water bottles should be labeled and should easily fit in your child's backpack for transporting back and forth between school and home.
We love to celebrate birthdays in school, but we do so without food. Some options for celebrating include:
The birthday child bringing small items to give to classmates (pencils, erasers, bubbles, etc)
Having a guest reader join us to read a special book to the class
Sending in special napkins to enjoy for our snack time.
We also have special classroom birthday traditions that the children will enjoy together to honor each child's special day.
It is with tremendous joy that we begin this journey with your family.
Please know that, above all, your child is in a place where he/she will be supported, safe, and loved.
Here’s to an amazing adventure in learning and growing!
Warmly,
💕 The Kindergarten Team
