Kindergarten is an amazing learning adventure full of connection, wonder, play, and discovery. We hope you love to read, write, draw, count, play games, use your imagination, sing, explore the world, and meet new friends.
Kindergarten is full of these things, and SO much more.
Our team works closely to ensure that every kindergarten student at OFRS has a consistent, warm, and safe learning experience throughout our year together. With this in mind, this shared site is used to host all of the information children and families will need to get started.
Please navigate the site using the dropdown menu from the Home Page.
As educators, we are so proud to work together and collaborate as much as possible. No matter which homeroom your child is in, you can be assured that your child will come to know each kindergarten teacher during our time together. Whether it is at our shared recess or lunch times, or during one of many special experiences that we create across classrooms, we are thrilled to share our world and welcome each of you into our kindergarten family.
As you think about getting ready for school, we have a special job for you to do as a family.
Our classrooms are spaces for all of us to share. Teachers, children, and caregivers will be discovering the magic of kindergarten in so many new ways this year. In order to represent each family in our classroom spaces, please prepare a family picture (nothing fancy, just a picture that represents you all! 4x6 or slightly smaller will work best for our project) to send into school.
When the opportunity arises as the school year begins, please send the photo in so that we can have it on display in the classroom. You may even have it ready to share when we meet each other at our Open House before the start of the new school year.
As we build our community, and learn to navigate new routines, these photos serve as a reminder for the children of the many people that support and care for each other.
Thank you for being a part of building our classroom together.
Each Kindergarten classroom has a Peace Corner that the children help to build at the beginning of the year. This is a quiet designated space to support self-regulation. Here, children practice using a variety of different strategies to gain independence and navigate the many feelings that can arise during a day of learning and play.
As a learning community we love wondering about the world together!
As you get to know our learning community, here are some questions that can guide your conversations:
Connect: Do you already know any of people who go to OFRS each day? Are they students or are they people that work there?
What kinds of things do you think they do at school?
Wonder: How might kindergarten children in different classrooms learn and play together each day?
Play: Next time you are playing and pretending, imagine you are at school. What job would you like to do? Why?
Discover: What is something you have learned about OFRS that you didn't know before? What is something that makes you curious? What is something that makes you excited?
We are so excited that you will be a part of this community soon too!
