Read Together Every Day- Even 15-20 minutes of shared reading makes a difference. Take turns reading pages, or let your child read aloud to you.
2. Talk About Books- Ask open-ended questions: "What was your favorite part?" or "Why do you think the character made that choice?" This builds comprehension and critical thinking.
3. Build a Reading Routine- Create a special reading time each day- before bed, after school, or during breakfast. Consistency helps make reading a habit.
4. Surround Them with Books- Keep books in different rooms, in the car, or even in a backpack! Access makes it easier to pick up a book anytime.
5. Model Reading- Let your child see you reading books, magazines, or even recipes. Kids who see adults enjoying reading are more likely to do the same.
6. Use Audiobooks and E-Books- Listening to stories builds vocabulary and fluency. Many school libraries and public libraries offer these digital collections.
7. Visit the Library Together- Explore new genres, let your child pick their own books, and get excited about discovering stories together.
8. Encourage Real-World Reading- Recipes, game directions, street signs, billboards, or menus all count as reading practice.
9. Celebrate Progress- Notice when your child tries new words, finishes a chapter book, or shows excitement about a story. Praise helps build confidence.
