A High Tech Weekend does not have to be a school sanctioned event. Partner up with industry or a local college or CESA to host an event. Think about a piece of equipment or a process where industry can be of help. Local Tech Colleges have large facilities that are meant to teach larger class sizes. Consider hosting a HTW with the technical college in your district. They may be a current or future partner.
Reach out to local industry and local tech colleges for support. Ask them first to be involved. This could be them speaking at the HTW during a lunch, this might lead to them offering to pay for or sponsor that lunch! Invite professionals in to lead a discussion. For example if you are hosting a HTW on "Building Tiny Homes" invite a local plumber in to lead a session on flex tubing and modern plumbing techniques. Plan a tour with industry during lunch or after hours. Hosting an after hours tour is perfect for people who are traveling from out of town to the HTW.
Work with your local tech college or CESA to organize a college credit, grad credit or certification upon the completion of the HTW. This might cost an additional fee for attendees who want the option to purchase that credit. Partner up with an organizations like: NC3- National Collation of Certifications , WATDA, American Foundry Society, American Welders Society
