Vor SHMS...

Before SHMS, I assistant taught at a Gesamtschule in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern through the Fulbright Program and Pädagogischer Austauschdienst of Germany. I loved my time in Rostock, and I consider it my second home. When I had the opportunity to contribute to the Fulbright alumni journal, FRANKly, after my first year at SHMS, I jumped at the chance to write about how wonderful it is to teach middle school German.

About the Fulbright from its website

"Led by the United States government in partnership with more than 160 countries worldwide, the Fulbright Program offers international educational and cultural exchange programs for passionate and accomplished students, scholars, artists, teachers, and professionals of all backgrounds to study, teach, or pursue important research and professional projects."

From the German Fulbright Commission's website

"The German-American Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Germany) facilitates cross-border international understanding through academic exchange. As the only binational exchange organization in Germany with a US focus, we award around 700 scholarships annually for study, research, teaching and continuing education in the USA and Germany, thereby actively promoting transatlantic dialogue and creating opportunities and space for experiences through various types of encounters. We bring people together.

We are shaped by the founding spirit of US Senator J. William Fulbright and the experiences of the Second World War, in which humanity was sacrificed to ideology."

FRANKly, the Fulbright alumni journal, is described on its website as:  "The FRANKly is our most important publication and new editions are published once a year. It presents the association, its activities and goals to the general public." It is distributed to affiliate institutions and universities.
