This Summer Academy is for K-12 Speech-Language Pathologists. SLPs will complete various trainings on their own that will total a full day. Trainings may be in-person or virtual. Examples of trainings that can be considered are ASHA Learning Pass, PaTTAN trainings, and other speech-language trainings targeting school populations.
Trainings can begin June 8th and should be finished by August 7th.

This full-day Summer Academy is designed to support collaboration, alignment, and effective instructional planning across the district in kindergarten. During the first half of the day, all kindergarten teachers will engage in meaningful discussions around key kindergarten topics, including standards, assessments and common assessments, centers, differentiation, and enrichment.
The second half of the day will provide dedicated time for building-based teams to collaborate, plan, and prepare for the upcoming school year. There is also the option to stay and continue district wide collaboration. Teachers will use this time to apply district-level learning to their specific school context, ensuring cohesive instruction.
This Academy aims to strengthen consistency, promote best practices, and support high-quality learning experiences for all kindergarten students.

Participates will learn essential vocabulary, basic sentence structure, and key communication strategies that can be immediately applied in classroom and support settings.
Emphasis is placed on functional communication—signs and techniques that help students express needs, make choices, and engage socially. The Academy also introduces visual attention strategies, the role of facial expressions and body language in ASL, and ways to adapt signing for students with physical, cognitive, or sensory challenges.
Through hands-on practice, guided activities, and real-world scenarios, participants will build confidence using ASL in everyday interactions. No prior experience with American Sign Language is required. By the end of the Academy, learners will have foundational skills to foster more inclusive, accessible, and responsive learning environments for diverse student populations.

We will leave Red Land at 8:00 AM, traveling by bus to Peach Bottom, a BWR (boiling water reactor). We will hit the turbine then head up to the fuel floor, and you all will get to see the spent fuel pool.
We will then travel to Crane Clean Energy Center (TMI). Crane is a PWR (pressurized water reactor). There we will walk around the turbine building.
They will provide lunch and also talk about opportunities in the nuclear world of today. They would like to discuss the importance of developing a questioning attitude, storytelling, and what communication looks in their industry.
