Placing Identity: A Guide for Producing Original Documentaries with StudentsThese three lesson plans outline methods developed by artist-educator Diana Greene, and utilized by journalism students at R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC, to devise an original documentary film that explores two questions:What creates our identity?Does where we live affect the person we become?The film, “Placing Identity,” was developed as part of Pulitzer Center’s NewsArts initiative, which creates original programs that examine intersections of news and art in Winston-Salem.Each guide includes examples of student work and hands-on exercises for students.
