ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES OFFERED AT MOUNT TABOR
The Advanced Placement Program provides opportunities for high school students to take rigorous college level courses and earn college credit. Students enrolled in AP courses take AP Exams in May. North Carolina covers the cost of AP Exams for public high school students. Also, all University of North Carolina public universities grant college credit to students who earn 3 or higher on AP Exams. Many private colleges and universities award credit for scores of 3 or higher also.
Most Advancement Placement courses are offered at the Career Center. Look for the 23-24 Career Center Quick Reference Registration Guide and access the Career Center website for more details about AP Courses offered there.
The following AP courses are offered at Mount Tabor High School for the 2023-24 school year. Requirements
For graduation prior to one’s class, a student must:
A. Meet the graduation course and testing requirements that were effective the year he/she entered ninth grade for the first time.
B. Complete the Future-Ready Core Course of Study.
Procedures
1. The parent(s)/court appointed guardian(s) of a student may request early graduation for the student by completing the Early Graduation Request form which is available by contacting your student's school counselor .
2. The student and parent/guardian must meet with his/her school counselor to assure all graduation/testing requirements are met by the end of the final semester and post-secondary plans are discussed. This meeting must occur prior to submission of the Early Graduation Request form.
3. The principal considers the request and approves or denies graduation prior to one’s class on an individual case-by-case basis, subject to the criteria stated above.
4. The student must pay all outstanding fees to the school prior to graduation.
5. Diplomas are issued at the end of the school year at or following the graduation ceremony.
The class of 2026 (current 10th grade class) are eligible for a new Senate Bill 406 which indicates that students can receive an automatic scholarship if they graduate within three years of entering high school in the ninth grade. The bill’s titled “Choose Your School, Choose Your Future” expand the state’s voucher program, which provides public money for school tuition. But they also require all public schools to create a three-year track to graduation — and they provide a new state scholarship to encourage students to use that track. The following are the eligibility requirements for the scholarship:
Graduate from a State public high school within three years of entering the ninth grade. The Department of Public Instruction shall indicate on a student’s transcript provided to the authority that the student is an early graduate pursuant to this section.
Qualify as a resident for tuition purposes under the criteria set forth in G.S. 116-143.1 and in accordance with the coordinated and centralized residency determination process administered by the authority.
Meet enrollment standards by being admitted, enrolled, and classified as a student in a matriculated status at an eligible postsecondary institution.
Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Bus to Career Center is Free.
It serves all high schools
It runs 5 times per day:
Early Morning - home school to CC (students need to provide their own transportation to Mt. Tabor by 7am in the morning)
Morning
Midday (2)
Afternoon
Afternoon run will arrive back at home school in time for buses & after school activities
If you think you may need the bus make sure you alert your counselor when you register for classes! You can see a more detailed schedule of the bus on our Career Center info page.
Students can't register for a study hall. Sorry! The expectation is that all students register for 8 credits of classes if they attend only Mt. Tabor, and at least 7 credits of classes if they attend both the Career Center and Mt. Tabor (allowing for a travel period). Every fall Mt. Tabor administration re-evaluates the guidelines on if study halls will be an option, and if so, what requirements must be met to be eligible for one.
Registration for the 2024-25 school year will end on March 28th so it's important you speak with your teachers, families, and school counselors prior to this time in order to request a change to something you may have originally requested during your registration meeting. It's especially important for students/families to speak with teachers of 2nd semester classes as we get closer to that date to see if they, through a student's efforts within their class, have new suggestions of courses.
While we as a school try to accommodate requests, beyond March 28th there are very selective reasons why a course change would be allowed so PLEASE use this time wisely to prepare for the most successful 2024-25 school year you can have!
If you have questions regarding any changes, please reach out to your student's School Counselor. Since school counselors are meeting individually with students throughout the next few months, the best way to contact them regarding a requested changed after a student has met with them, is via email. Please be specific in the change you're wishing to make to the course registration request. School Counselor contact information can be found here.
