Why FLEX?
At the beginning of the summer I had a meeting with my counselor, Ms. Welch. In this meeting we discussed the possibility of me doing Flex PE because, in order to follow my plans of doing early college next year, I should have all my graduation requirements filled and I still hadn't completed my PE credits. But beyond the fact that I really needed to do Flex, I also wanted to. Once I looked into what it entailed, I was intrigued and excited. I have never had a class where I got to lead my exploration of a topic. And in Flex I got to take that a step further and even pick my topics.
How does the FLEX process work and how will I use this in the future?
Flex involves weekly meetings with Ms. Thielen for support and guidance, with work being done independently. Flex follows an 80/20 rule, where 80% of the work done is entirely my own and self driven, and 20% is guided by Ms. Thielen directly.
I currently don't know what direction I want to go in professionally, but I have always leaned towards scientific fields and in the last year I have found a deep interest in exercise science. This study lines up perfectly with what I have been learning in flex PE and so if I do decide to go into exercise science I will have a deeper understanding of the topic because of Flex.
