Unit 1- Global Action: This unit will allow students an opportunity to learn about kids making a significant difference in the world and investigate issues that impact our society. Using the DEEP design thinking process, students will develop a potential solution to a problem of their choosing, implement their solution (if possible), receive feedback, and make revisions to further improve their ideas to make our world a better place.
Unit 2 - Presentation Skills
Unit 3 - Independent Projects
Unit 4 - Architecture: This unit will allow students an opportunity to explore, think, and design as they develop a wide range of knowledge and skills surrounding the study of architecture. We'll be exploring connections between the past and the present as we study how lifestyle, culture, religion, construction methods, economy, technology, the environment, and people’s needs and concerns all play a role in architecture.
Independent Projects: With over 40 projects to choose from, this will make up the majority of this elective. Students will spend the semester diving into their chosen topic (including sports, architecture, art, criminology, public service, bridges, probability, writing a novel, learning a foreign language, and many more).
Vocabulary: Students will learn roots and advanced vocabulary that will aid them in AP and honors classes at the high school level and help prepare them for ACT/SAT testing in the future. Each vocabulary list will be accompanied by a set of analogies and neologisms (made-up new words).
Problem Solving & Creativity: Each month, we will focus on a different type of problem-solving puzzle. Creativity challenges will be scattered throughout the semester, ranging from sketching to writing to turning random objects into something completely unexpected!
