Must have 3.0 cumulative GPA
Great option for some; but not for all -- MUST BE GOOD AT TIME MANAGEMENT!!
For each SCC class you take, you can remove a WSD class from your high school schedule*
At the end of the semester, SCC will send us your grade for the classes you took; you will not only get college-credit for that course, but we will also award high school credit for the course (100-level courses are not weighted; 200-level are weighted)**
Failing or withdrawing from DE courses will affect your high school GPA and may affect your MSHSAA eligibility
Most take SCC classes online (flexible schedule)
If you choose to take an on-campus class or “remote” Zoom class that meets a specific time, you must pick a class in the afternoon/evening so they do not conflict with your WSD classes
* SCC courses that are 3-4 credit-hour courses are the equivalent of 0.5 high school credit, and one WSD class can be removed from your schedule; 5-6 credit-hour courses are worth 1.0 credit, and two WSD courses can be removed from your schedule
** The only exception on weighted classes are math classes; College Alg, Trigonometry, Pre-Calc, & Calc are weighted
You will need to attend an informational meeting in April if you are interested in doing dual enrollment next year. I don't know the exact date yet. This has an explanation of the process that will not begin until AFTER April 1st:
NEW dual enrollment students please check out this Dual Enrollment Slideshow with all of the information you need, including links to required forms. Look at slides 4 and 6 for specific directions.
DUAL ENROLLMENT PROCESS (items in Green are for new DE students)
Review the Dual Enrollment Slideshow
(NEW STUDENTS ONLY) Apply online at www.stchas.edu/apply
Watch for your "Welcome" email with your student # and SCC Portal login credentials
Instructions for how to complete the online application are available in the Student Center
Decide which classes to sign up for
Core 42 courses are highly transferable credits and are likely the same classes many colleges require for their general education coursework (this list is also available for pick-up in the Student Center)
Visit college websites to view the list of required general education courses at the college/university you plan to attend.
"Two birds-one stone" is a good strategy (i.e. taking English at SCC means you don't have to take an LHS English course that semester)
View the Dual Enrollment Course Catalog Instructions to learn how to look up course sections that have available seats in the term you plan to take courses (Summer 2024 or Fall 2024); you will need to make list the Section Number on your SCC Dual Enrollment Application
Forms needed by SCC:
This form requires my signature. You can drop off your form at the Student Center in the morning and come back for it at the end of the day.
You should already have your courses planned and written on your form when Drop it off. (See #3 above for how to do this)
SCC Consent to Release Information (gives parents permission to contact SCC)
(NEW STUDENTS ONLY) LHS Transcript Request Form
Mrs. Schock, the Registrar, will print your unofficial transcript. She is also located in the Student Center
Email your forms to dualenroll@stchas.edu
Complete the Dual Enrollment Planning Form and turn in to the Student Center. Gerringer uses this form to fix your LHS schedule. If you are in a MSHSAA Activity, you must get Mr. Eldredge's signature before turning this form in.
If you need to speak with me to get my help in deciding which classes to take next, please come see me during Soar Time next week.
Once you get your Welcome Email from SCC, practice getting into the SCC Portal. Set up your SCC Student Email; this is the ONLY way teachers will communicate with you. Your courses will load into Canvas on the first day of the term.
Keep checking your SCC Student Email; you will get an email confirmation once you are registered for classes, along with other helpful information (next steps for dual enrollment, campus resources, bill pay information, etc.)
Make sure to pay for your classes by the due date (in your portal)
Time management is the key to success... Make sure you are logging into your courses at least 3-4 times a week to make sure you are not missing deadlines.
If you wish to withdraw from any classes you enroll in, please make an appointment with me first to discuss the possible negative consequences to your GPA, rank, and future financial aid.
Who is in your class? St. Charles Community College is a college. You will not be in a high school class with high school age students. Students in your classes may range from ages 16 to 80+. It is important to be aware when communicating with the classmates and professor that you are in a class with other students that varies in age and location.
Where classes are accepted: Public universities in Missouri and some private schools
How to access classes and professors:
SCC Portal: Go to the main SCC page → Quicklinks (top center) → SCC Portal
Email: SCC does not email you at your WSD account. They email you using this Email account: Cougar Mail (SCC's email)
Check this periodically - especially before the course starts
Canvas: This is where you will access your Canvas account
The classes will ONLY be available beginning Monday, the first day of class!
You can email your professors through SCC Canvas.
For In-Person Classes: Email your professor if you are going to miss a class! Do this through Canvas and as soon as you know. For example: Hello Dr. Smith. I am Mary Ellen Riley from Liberty High School. I will not be in class on Tuesday, September 20th. Could you please tell me what I missed?
Professors will not remind you assignments are due. They do not keep track of missing assignments. You are responsible for your work.
Unofficial Transcript: If you need an unofficial transcript of classes, then you do this through the SCC Portal. Go to right side, SCC Connections → Student → Academic Profile
Where to get your books:
You will need your class and section number in order to see what books you need. Go to main SCC page → Quicklinks (top center) → Campus Store → Textbooks (on the right side) → Page down to “Find a Textbook” Shop now
Academic Calendar and Payment Due Dates
If you do not pay, you are NOT automatically dropped from the class
If you want to drop the class, you may still have to pay the tuition and file drop papers (ask for withdraw schedule)
For a traditional 16-week course, first 2 weeks you can drop the class and receive 100% refund
For classes that are 14 weeks or 8 weeks, these drop dates and payment refund dates are different.
Fall 2023 Academic Calendar HERE
8 Week classes are called “Fall Accelerated Term 1” or “Term 2”
Also includes withdraw deadline. For example, if you are earning a D in a dual enrollment class and do not want that on your high school transcript, then you need to apply before the withdrawal deadline
Spring Calendar and Courses
These will be available to view mid-October. During Nov/Dec, SCC will come to the high schools to help enroll students
Parking is free at SCC
If you wish to park, you need a parking pass. To get a pass, you must have proof you are registered for classes at SCC (printed or digital) and license plate #
Earning a degree: some students are earning credits towards an associate's degree while attending high school. It is REQUIRED to apply to graduate. You do not receive a degree automatically like a high school diploma.
Applying to Higher Level Classes: sometimes students take the AP test and pass with a 3 or higher. This earns you college credit and qualifies as a pre-requisite for some higher-level classes. So, you MUST contact the college board to have them send your scores. This is not automatic. For example, if you took AP English Language and earned a 3, 4, or 5 then you earned the equivalent of ENG 101 at St. Charles Community College. Sending that score to SCC will allow you to enroll in ENG 102.
Waitlist: There is a “waitlist” in the course registration catalog. There is actually no waitlist option.
You are a College Student! This means you can enjoy the community college resources offered. Clubs, tutoring, and events are available to you. You will need to get an SCC Student ID to access the library, use the e-center, or proctored tests.
