At the beginning of school, the 5th grade music classes will begin working on a unit based on reading, performing, and notating musical rhythms.  At the end of September, there will be a unit assessment where the students will identify note names and values, and correctly perform a given rhythm from flash cards. This unit will directly address Standard E-1.b Demonstrate learned melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic patterns using expressive elements; Standard C-1.a Create and document a melodic and/or rhythmic composition with accompaniment to present a chosen style or mood; and Standard T-1.b Rhythm: Identify and demonstrate syncopated rhythms.
