At the end of September, the 4th Grade music classes will begin a unit on Tempo, Dynamics, and Articulations. Students will be learning to visually identify, aurally identify, and perform various tempos and dynamics such as pp, mp, mf, ff, fermata, and accent. This unit will directly address Standard E-1.b Demonstrate learned melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic patterns using expressive elements; Standard E-2.a Demonstrate melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic patterns with attention to tempo, dynamics, and articulation learned from notation; Standard E-2.b Demonstrate tempo, dynamic and articulation indications in musical examples; Standard T-2.a Tempo: Identify and demonstrate fermata; Standard T-2.b Dynamics: Identify and demonstrate mezzo forte, mezzo piano, pianissimo/fortissimo; Standard T-2.c Articulation: Identify and demonstrate accent; Standard R-1.a Evaluate how a variety of musical elements influence musical performance and preference; and Standard R-1.b Communicate similarities and differences in music from various historical pereiods with music of today.
