During the month of October, the 4th grade music classes will begin another short unit, this time focusing on the many different ways of making harmony. Students will be working with Rounds, Ostinati, and Partner Songs. This unit will directly address Standard E-1.a Demonstrate three-part vocal and/or instrumental rounds; Standard E-1.c Demonstrate and differentiate between songs in major and minor keys; Standard C-1.a Create and document melodic and/or rhythmic composition in known form using known rhythms and pitches; Standard T-1.a Melody: Identify and perform, or respond to in major/minor tonalities; Standard T-1.c Harmony: Identify, perform, or respond to basic harmonic patterns. (e.g., I-V, V-I); Standard T-3.c Timbre: Aurally identify 2+ parts; and Standard R-1.a Evaluate how a variety of musical elements influence musical performance and preference.
