During the month of October, the 3rd grade music students will begin a unit on Dynamics, Tempo, and Articulation. Students will be learning to define and apply dynamics, piano, forte, crescendo, decrescendo, tempo, presto, largo, accelerando, ritardando, staccato, and legato. There will be a short assessment at the beginning of November. This unit directly addresses Standard E-1.a Demonstrate learned melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic phrases using expressive elements; Standard T-2.a Tempo: Identify and demonstrate accelerando/ritardando; Standard T-2.b Dynamics: Identify and demonstrate crescendo/decrescendo; Standard T-2.c Articulation: Identify and demonstrate legato, staccato; and Standard R-1.a Communicate how expressive qualities (such as dynamics, modality, tempo and meter) are used to reflect expressive intent.Â
