At the beginning of April, the 3rd grade music students will start working on a unit of recorder performance. An end of unit assessment will be given in mid-May, where the students will be playing a short piece that we have learned in class. This unit will directly address Standard E-1.a Demonstrate learned melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic phrases using expressive elements; Standard E-2.a Use accurate vocal and instrumental techniques when singing and playing instruments; Standard E-2.c Use notation to accurately perform rhythms and melodic direction; Standard T-1.a Melody: Identify and demonstrate musical symbols by name or function; Standard T-1.b Rhythm: Identify and demonstrate four sixteenth notes, dotted half note; Standard T-3.c Timbre: Aurally identify instruments and families; and Standard R-2.a Describe vocal and instrumental timbres and their uses in various cultures.
