During the months of September and October, the 1st grade music students will begin a new unit on Dynamics and Tempo. We will spend these few weeks using movement to demonstrate getting louder/softer, getting faster/slower, and the vocabulary words Forte and Piano. This unit will directly address Standard E-2.b Demonstrate appropriate tempo and dynamic levels; Standard T-2.a Tempo: Identify and demonstrate faster/slower; Standard T-2.b Dynamics: Identify and demonstrate louder/softer, piano, forte; Standard R-2.a Describe how ideas or moods are communicated through music written for specific purposes (such as holiday, march, lullaby); Standard R-2.b Describe specific elements of music that impact thoughts or emotions; and Standard R-2.c  Create developmentally appropriate responses to music from various genres, periods, and styles (rhythm, melody form). The end of the unit will culminate with a short assessment in mid-October.
