Troupe 10336 participated at the STAR Fest Regional on December 17th at the University of Winnipeg. Our members had a phenomenal experience taking part in workshops, showcasing their talents in musical, non-musical, and technical categories. Four members earned Advanced placements - the most from any school in the province!
Sadie & Sophie earned an Advanced placement for the dance they choregraphed from Teen Beach Movie! They were the only group to enter dance category and we are so proud of the achievement they earned!
Clara & Miriya showcased excellent vocals, choreography, and characterization in their duet! They brought heart and humour to their piece from Guys and Dolls
The National STAR Fest Central was hosted at the University of Winnipeg on May 14th. Students from Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario made the journey to share their performances for adjudication, engage in incredible workshops, and participate in scholarship auditions.
Both our Onstage and Backstage Troupe members had an incredible time at the National STAR Fest Central! We were the youngest students to attend and participate in adjudication, but our students rose to the challenge! We made new connections, learned a lot from the workshops, and pushed beyond our comfort zones!
12 of our members earned Proficient adjudication across multiple categories, including solo musical, group musical, contrasting monologues, two-person scene, and group scene!
Keaton and Sadie both earned Advanced adjudication for their contrasting monologue categories. Keaton is the only student this year to repeat the feat in both grade seven and eight in her time here. And Sadie was the youngest person in Canada to achieve the honour this year!

The team #Naturals did something that no other team has done in the history of Manitoba Destination Imagination: they claimed first place in all three challenges they participated in - the Instant, Fine Arts, and Improvisation challenges! They combined unique characters, compelling story lines, original music, beautiful & synchronized dance, and (most importantly) great teamwork.
This year for the MDYF, some of our grade eight members stepped into the director's chair for the first time! Four groups were made, each with two grade eight students acting as co-directors. The groups worked to write, rehearse, and then present their work for adjudication at the festival. Each one was unique and polished, and each earned a Gold standing at the festival!

Earning one of her two Blue Ribbons this year, Marah Her adjudicators commented that her "singing expression was very beautiful and (they) could feel the character's emotion"!
One of our two submissions to earn a Blue Ribbon from our production of Into The Woods Junior, Marah and Miora impressed the adjudicators , quote: "This duet has great characterization and use of movement. The tone and pitch is near perfect!"
The closing number from our production of Into The Woods Junior was a great hit! "This was such a joy to watch. The attention to detail in this piece is marvelous." This was the only group musical piece at the CNTF this year, and we are proud to have earned a Blue Ribbon for it.
Keaton and Madoka were the only non-musical based performance to earn a Blue Ribbon for the performance. The adjudicators loved their chemistry and characterization, and so will you in this dark comedy that packs an emotional punch.

Kira, Gabriel, Zia, Natalie, Charlotte, and Milan brought so much energy and passion to the stage as "Canada's Most Wanted Asparagus" for the Improvisation challenge. They had the audience in stiches from the word "go". Great work, mighty asparagus!
Canada's Most Wanted Asparagus also won first place in the Instant Challenge, where they displayed excellent creativity and communication skills.
The MDYF has been taking place for over 40 years. As the theatre world adapted to the COVID pandemic, so too did the festival by moving to an online format. This year, participating performers were challenged to create original performers around five provided "ingredients". The ingredients this year were the following: the colour purple; a moment of regret; a song OR gibberish; a moment of semi-intricate movement; and an obscure reference to bacon.
Once videos were completed, they were submitted to the festival for adjudication from industry professionals and experts.
The Troupe only had ten days to cast, record, and edit their original performance piece together! "Purple Ring" was a ton of fun to put together, and our Troupe members did a fabulous job.
The Troupe's hard work and commitment really paid off, as the adjudicators awarded them with a Gold from the adjudicators!
