Chinese Homestyle Cooking

Chinese food is much more than just noodles and dumplings! Due to the diversity of its climate and geography, China’s culinary traditions break down into two basic regions: the North mostly uses wheat (e.g. noodles) and the South uses rice. If you’re interested in learning about the every-day cuisine from different regions that isn’t typically found in restaurants, how to cook common family-style Chinese food at home, or expanding your existing Chinese food home-cooking repertoire, you’ll want to join this camp!

Chinese Art Traditions

In the art traditions of the Chinese masters, create a masterpiece that combines the three elements of poetry in calligraphy, painting, and a Chinese style artistic stamp signature. You’ll learn the basics of Chinese watercolor, calligraphy technique, and name stamp or ‘chop’ carving as you express your artistic self through a unique masterpiece that will impress your friends and family!

Chinese Shadow Puppet Show

Chinese shadow puppetry is an ancient form of theater acted out using colorful silhouette figures made from leather or paper, and often accompanied by music and singing. This entertainment form dates back more than a thousand years in Chinese culture, and is a favorite of audiences all over China. Come learn the legends about how the shadow puppet tradition began, and participate in performing a Shadow Puppet show of a traditional Chinese story, using puppets that you have designed and produced. Lights, camera, action!
