If you are a teacher, an administrator, psychologist, or a parent... the process is the same. As part of an IEP team, we adhere to Special Education guidelines. A child must be identified as having a disability and qualify for Special Education services. Occupational Therapy is NOT a stand alone service.
This procedure should be implemented before you contact the Occupational Therapist to refer a student with a signed Permission to Evaluate form.

Use the link above "RtI Resources" to Tier 1 (Universal) and Tier 2 (Targeted) intervention ideas.
Consult with your OT: talk to or email your OT for Tier 2 suggestions specific to your
student.
After RTI, if the student is continuing to struggle, please fill out and email the referral form to your OT.
Question: Is it necessary that each child who has been assessed and determined to need help in gross and fine motor skills development receive occupational therapy, physical therapy, or adapted physical education from a specialist?
Answer: No, not every child with gross motor and fine motor needs will require special services. The IEP team makes the determination of the appropriate strategies and services based upon the identified needs of the child. In some cases, the general education or special education program can meet the child’s needs. In other cases, children will need direct services or consultation (or both).
