Kindergarten students learned how to sew a whip stitch with plastic needles and yarn, and drew a picture in the middle showing what they love about spring.
Kindergarteners also drew and painted pigeons in the style of Mo Willems.
First grade investigated sunflowers and famous artists that painted sunflowers, and then created their own!
The first graders created collages based on the artist/children’s author Faith Ringold.
Our first grade artists expressed angry emotions drawing/painting an angry tiger.
Second grade explored warm and cool colors in paintings.
Our second graders learned how to weave Peruvian ponchos.
Our second grade artists created a collage while listening and learning about jazz music.
Our third grade artists created faces using paint and found trash in the classroom inspired by artist Tuyree Guyton.
Third grade learned about Salvador Dali and surrealist art, and then created a portrait of Dali and his famous mustache. They have started some papier-mâché birds this month!
Fourth grade is learning about Native American weaving and are learning to weave with beads.
Forth grade also focused on a African American artist.
Our forth grade artists re-created paintings of folk artist William H Johnson.
Forth grade talked about his life, his transition to folk painting when he moved to America, and his use of color in his paintings.
After learning about the quilters of Gee’s Bend, fifth graders created their own quilt blocks.
Our 5th impressive 5th grade quilts are hanging in the school! Stop by to see their beauty.
Sixth grade learned about artist Kehinde Wiley and painted self portraits in his style. The poses come from famous paintings. The paintings are first created on clear transparencies. They then created their own stamp and stamped a pattern that would be glued behind the clear transparency.
