Elected officers may purchase a school sweater. A $100 deposit is required at the time of the fitting to be paid to the office. The fitting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16th at 1:30 pm in the Wahlquist library. The sweater pattern is the same for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders so that in the event that an officer is re-elected, the same sweater may be reused with a minor alteration charge.
There will also be an induction ceremony and dinner for all newly elected and current officers (free) and parents/guardians or other guests ($10 each) on Friday, May 9th.
All officers must enroll in the Student Government class for the full school year. This class counts as an elective credit. Schedule adjustments will be made with the Registrar in the counseling office.
Misbehavior and unfulfilled responsibilities may result in loss of points in class, demerits, and probation. Probation lasts for one quarter and will result in transferring out of the Student Government Class and other consequences for that quarter. If behavior does not improve, officers may be removed from office.
Officers are required to attend ALL home athletic events in their entirety (staying the whole time) and other school sponsored activities/performances (including concerts and school musicals), and a minimum of two away games to support teams and bolster school spirit. Officers are expected to be dedicated and well-behaved spectators at each event by actively supporting participants and/or cheering with the cheerleaders.
Recently, more 9th Graders have been participating in athletics and other extracurricular activities at the high school. That is certainly fine, however, Wahlquist Student Government needs officers to focus on Wahlquist. Candidates for Student Body Office and 9th Grade Class Office should take into consideration their schedules and if those will conflict with any Wahlquist responsibilities. Activities missed, will need to be made up at the Advisor’s discretion. Officers in any grade who participate in competition leagues or other activities that take place between 2:30 and 5:00 should realize that will frequently conflict with activities.
Parents of elected officers will be expected to assist with at least one major event over the course of the year: primarily chaperoning at dances (9th and 8th grade) or helping with the Trunk or Treat (7th grade) but may include helping with assemblies or other activities, including our Sub for Santa fundraiser (SBOs).
The officer sweater is the largest expense at $240
Wahlquist will cover some of the clothing
Meals on field trips are often paid for by the Wahlquist
Induction banquet meals are free for the officer and $10 per guest.
