Theatre had our Farewell Feast where the Productions class performed a final show and we recapped our year last week while celebrating our seniors, those who lettered, those who made the shows for next year, and those who made it to state this year!
We went on a field trip where we toured the Davis County Jail and the 2nd District Courthouse. It was a fun opportunity and the students decided the jail is a fun place to work and an awful place to live!
First Graduating Class of West Field High School.... Class of 2025!!
West Field Agriculture
The West Field Agriculture Department hosted a successful Plant and Soil Expo on April 16th. The event was a collaborative effort among all Plant Science and Greenhouse teachers in the district—Colten Smith, Hailey Bass, Courtney Henderson, Katelyn Bodily and Hailee Toone.
Each teacher leveraged their professional contacts to invite industry experts, who engaged students with presentations about their careers. The expo featured a comprehensive representation of the plant industry, including forestry, floriculture, wildland firefighting, and precision agriculture.
Students from each school rotated through the various stations, interacting with at least 10 different presenters. At the conclusion of the event, students completed a reflection to reinforce what they learned and gained from the experience.
Criminal Justice
And
Law Enforcement
Criminal Justice
We investigated a homicide! Students wrote affidavits, search warrants and police reports. In a later module about courts and trials, the students prosecuted (and defended) the case in court.
Law Enforcement
We had Weber 911 (Dispatch) come and speak to the class. They shared information about what it takes to become a dispatcher and we listened to dispatch calls so we could hear the difficulties that the job can have.
Police dogs visited Law Enforcement and showed us how they can locate drugs and bite bad guys, if reasonable and necessary, of course.
Health Science Classes
This past couple of weeks in Exercise Science and Sports medicine we learned about Therapeutic Modalities that are used in the medical field. We learned how and why they are supposed to work, along with when they are contraindicated for use.
In our Medical Anatomy and Physiology class (and Advanced) we were able to due a pig heart dissection via WSU Dissections.
Physics classes have spent a little time working on building some 3D designed and printed flashlights, that the students have learned how to do all of the wiring and soldering for as part of their electronics unit. They turned out great!
The Law Enforcement class just finished up a module about traffic investigations. We studied traffic accidents, traffic laws, and police traffic stops. The students braved a cold and windy day to perform traffic stops in the West Field parking lot with the assistance of our tremendous SRO, Deputy Maxfield. Students even got to use the police lights, sirens, and bullhorn!
The Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement classes were visited by Special Agent Burton and Flash. Flash is an electronic storage detection (ESD) K-9, or what I like to call an electronic sniffing dog (ESD). Flash demonstrated his skill in finding electronics for students. Flash helps investigators find critical digital evidence that helps solve crimes and puts criminals behind bars. A student or two may have even had their cell phones pickpocketed by Flash!

ASLHS NEWS:
On March 4, our ASLHS service project focused on giving back to the community. We made and donated 10 fleece blankets to the homeless shelter in Ogden. Students contributed fabric, worked together in teams of 2-3, and played vital roles in the creation process. The project was organized into different stations: cutting, tying, and packaging. After completing the blankets, students delivered them directly to the shelter, helping provide warmth and comfort to those in need. This collaborative effort brought our group together and made a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals in the community.
West Field's theatre team took 3rd overall sweepstakes at Bear River High last Friday for UHSAA region competition with Owen Button taking 1st, and Carson Coleman taking 2nd in pantomime!
We also learned that Jaide Manzanares made the top 10 in Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards for her light design for Something Rotten. AND, Blake Lofts was one of 51 students chosen as a top singer by CS Music for his performance in Something Rotten! Pretty great for competing against 60 schools!

Join the HERD
West Field hosted the first "Join the HERD" event. 2025-2026 students were invited to visit teachers, counselors and administrators during this community event. Approx. 500 parents and students attended the Open House style event held during the last hour and a half of Parent Teacher Conferences.

To encourage positive behavior, and a little friendly competition, students are participating in an on-going Battle of the Classes contest. Points are awarded for school spirit, participation, attendance, GPA, whatever! So far, seniors are in the lead.
On Tuesday, October 15th, West Field held an open house for the community and district. The building was open from 4-6:30 pm for people to walk through, talk with teachers and see the amazing building and what it has to offer. At 5 pm a ribbon cutting ceremony was held with speakers from the school board, superintendency, administration and student body. The highlight of the program was the branding of the hide by Superintendent Butters and Principal Martini. The brand was made and welded by our own Mr. Ray Smalley and his welding students.
West Field hosted the student government from Roy High and Fremont High. The students gathered together, shared lunch and toured the school. This was an awesome opportunity for the students to come together, share memories and discuss new traditions. The longhorns loved hosting the royals and silverwolves.
Our tennis team had a great season. They worked hard to become a team and learned so much about themselves and the sport. Congrats to an awesome first season!

The girls volleyball team has found their stride! They took on Snow Canyon in the first round of the playoffs and defeated them, moving them into tournament play. The state volleyball tournament will take place on Friday, November 1st and Saturday, November 2nd. Good luck lady longhorns!!

Way to go, Slade!!
The Little Longhorns are loving being a part of West Field. They love their high school teachers and are excited to come to school each day. Club Rush & Club Carnival
Student leaders prepared for the arrival of the West Field student body by touring the school and viewing the facilities. The following two days, they led the new longhorns in learning the school song, introduced them to the administration and led them through a tour of the building. The excitement was contagious.
The students participated in a variety of activities throughout the week and student gov introduced "Battle of the Classes". Throughout the year, the classes will participate in a variety of activities to earn points. The points are tallied and the winning class receives the coveted prize of being the first ever class to win "Battle of the Classes". Not only will they receive bragging rights, but will be the first to have their class engraved on the award. Current leaders... SOPHOMORES!!!
Homecoming week brought on the start of many new traditions. We introduced Francis and Winston, the spirit cows who select the fan of the game. It was also the start of our "Glow Up" - a tradition where we light up the longhorn and longhorn stadium in anticipation of the homecoming game. This year we used glow sticks. The seniors provided the burnt orange for the longhorn, while the juniors and sophomores circled up around the longhorn to help it pop. We are excited for all of our new traditions and are excited to continue building them throughout the year.
Go Longhorns!
Congrats to our September Athletes of the month, Hailey Atwater - Cross Country, and Mack Herzog - Golf.

The AP Physics students have been working to understand the way that changes in velocity over increments of time are accelerations. They are using the new track and a series of different objects to analyze the consistency of accelerations through multiple trials. It's been pretty fun to watch the students develop the lab and decide on the procedures!
West Field's littlest longhorns are loving the activities and learning in school. What a cool opportunity for our Early Childhood Education students to learn how to run a daycare/preschool right on campus.
