Description
No prior music experience necessary. This is a vocal class open to boys who desire to learn and sing choral music in the tenor/bass range. It is designed to train voices to sing parts and prepare to audition for our select choirs. In class we will work on music reading skills, rhythm, and using vocal exercises to build voices and confidence. The choir will perform at one concert each quarter.

Description
This course is open to students interested in learning to musical instruments. Home practice and attendance at concerts is required. Instruments are available through rent to own programs at local music stores. French horns, baritones, and tubas are available through school rental and a limited number of trumpets and trombones are available through school rental. No prior music experience is required.

Description
Prerequisite: Band I. This course provides opportunities for advancement and refinement of musical skills gained in beginning band. Emphasis is placed on musicality, individual and ensemble performance skills, recognition of musical styles and historic periods and quality band literature. Home practice and concert attendance are required.

Description
This course offers fundamental guitar techniques for beginning players. Emphasis will be placed on music reading skills, melody playing, and chord playing. Students will learn various styles of guitar playing. Solo and group performance will be required in class. Students must provide their own acoustic guitar. No amplifiers will be allowed in class.

Description
This course is open to all students interested in learning to play the violin, viola, cello or string bass. No previous experience is necessary. Violins, violas and cellos may be rented from local music stores. Cellos and basses may be rented from the school. Students learn to produce a clear tone, count basic rhythms and play in five keys. The class presents simple literature in group performances. The Music Department has a limited number of rental instruments available. Concert attendance required.

Prerequisite: Orchestra 1. This course is open to all students who have successfully completed beginning orchestra, or demonstrate mastery of basic skills. Students learn to play in positions and with vibrato, and learn advanced rhythms and bowing techniques. Solos and small ensembles develop independence. Concert repertoire includes challenging literature in a variety of styles. Concert attendance required

Description
An introductory course which covers some basic performing skills. Students will work on such things as pantomime, storytelling, and acting. The focus will be improving acting skills, while at the same time, helping students feel more at ease when performing in front of others. It is hoped that students will leave the class with more self-confidence and a basic understanding of theater.

Prerequisite Drama 1. This course builds on the skills acquired in Drama I. Study will include advanced vocal work, characterization, movement, American Musical Theater, and advanced scene work. The focus will be helping the actor portray a believable character on stage.

Description
Drama 3 is an advanced course focused on student-driven creation. Students will write, revise, and direct original scripts, developing skills in dramaturgy, collaboration, and directing. The curriculum features an overview of theatre history and targeted study of the building blocks for compelling narrative structure and dynamic character development. The course will culminate in a performance of the workshopped scenes to showcase student work and growth.
