A Center For Grieving Children is a support center for children who are grieving the loss of someone they love because of divorce or separation in the family or because of the death of a loved one. We also have support groups for children in foster care. The Center is the primary program of the Family Summit Foundation. It is a non-profit organization that serves nearly 800 individuals a year.
School Counselor's Role
Teach social skills and strategies
Provide short-term, problem-focused counseling to help students deal with problems that are impacting their academic education.
Support students at the point of performance in using and practicing social-emotional skills.
Provide support in student's social-emotional development and learning.
Mental Health Specialist's Role
This year we were lucky enough to be assigned a mental health specialist to our school. The mental health specialist is at our school one day a week. If your child could use more extensive therapy and mental health services, reach out to the school counselor for a referral. The mental health specialist provides short term services that typically last approximately 6 weeks.
Step 1: If it is a life threatening emergency take your child to the emergency room.
Weber Human Services has a twenty-four hour emergency crises hotline.
“Licensed professionals provide 24-hour emergency or crisis services with consultation available from a psychiatrist to all residents of Weber and Morgan Counties. Walk-in hours for emergency or crisis services are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Emergency or crisis services are also available by phone, 24-hours a day by calling 801-625-3700. In the event of a medical emergency, clients are encouraged to go directly to McKay-Dee Emergency Department or call 911.” <www.weberhs.org>
Weber School District is utilizing the SafeUT App. You can download this free app, or receive further information @ <uofuhealth.org/safeut> With SafeUT you have the option to start a call with a crisis counselor.
Step 2: Ask your child’s pediatrician for recommendations
Step 3: Research mental health providers for services that match your child’s needs.
This list isn't comprehensive; it's a guide and a starting point for those seeking mental health services in our area. When I receive new resources I will update, add to, or change the list. The Weber School District cannot refer you to a specific center and/or provider; however, this list is provided to you as a courtesy and this list is not all inclusive of Weber County. If you have questions regarding these facilities please contact them and your primary insurance provider.
