By making changes to the settings in their phones, students are making their devices less addictive. There's $1000 in prizes up for grabs for students who make a meaningful change to their relationship with their phone!
One student, Trevyn Checketts, has already won a $100 Amazon gift card! He was able to get his screen time to under 1.5 hours a day; that's less than a quarter of average for teens today! Congratulations to him. Students can still sign up for the challenge at any time until early May, when the last prize will be given away.

Dance Company: A Month of Growth and Creativity
January was an exciting and productive month for our Dance Company as they prepared for the upcoming State Dance Festival/Adjudication in March and the Starstruck Competition in April. The team has been working tirelessly, learning new student-choreographed routines that will showcase their incredible talent.
A special shoutout to Bri Painter (senior), who choreographed a powerful and dynamic team routine for competition. Her leadership and creativity have brought a unique energy to the group.
Additionally, Marinda Jacob (senior) and Alexis Carter (junior) both choreographed stunning routines — Marinda created a beautiful lyrical piece, while Alexis brought an energetic hip hop routine to life. Their hard work and artistic vision have added so much to the team's repertoire.
The Dance Company continues to grow stronger every week, improving not just their skills and performances but also their unity as a team. Their dedication and passion are truly inspiring, and we can't wait to see them shine at their upcoming competitions!

Ryder Steele Wins Prestigious Art Award at Springville Statewide High School Art Show!
We are thrilled to announce that Ryder Steele has won a truly remarkable award at the Springville Statewide High School Art Show this year. Ryder has been named the 1st Place Winner for the 1st Congressional District, a prestigious honor that means his artwork will be sent to Washington, D.C. to represent Congressman Blake Moore's 1st District. His piece will hang alongside other winning artworks from across the nation in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year — a tremendous achievement!
This is especially exciting for us at Fremont, as Mel and Jon shared that no one from Fremont has ever won this award before, making Ryder’s accomplishment even more special. We couldn’t be prouder of him!
Earlier this month, Ryder was invited to Capitol Day, where he was recognized by Lt. Governor Deirdre Henderson. He was also presented to both the Utah State Senate and House of Representatives for this incredible achievement (check out the photos below).
The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school visual arts competition sponsored by the Congressional Institute. It’s designed to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the country. Since its inception in 1982, over 650,000 high school students have participated. Each year, students submit their artwork to their representative’s office, where a panel of district artists selects the winners. These winning pieces are then displayed at the U.S. Capitol for a year.
Ryder’s achievement is a true testament to his talent and dedication, and we can't wait to see his work on display in the Capitol!
Congratulations, Ryder, on this amazing honor!
Fremont Art Show: Celebrating Creativity and Talent!
The Fremont Art Show was a huge success, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of our students. From stunning paintings and drawings to impressive sculptures and digital art, this year’s show displayed a diverse range of artistic expressions that highlighted the hard work and dedication of our artists.
Our students have poured their hearts and skills into their art throughout the year, and it was inspiring to see their creativity come to life on display. The show not only highlighted individual talent but also brought our school community together to celebrate the arts and the importance of creative expression.
A special thank you to our talented art teachers for guiding and supporting our students, and to everyone who visited the show to appreciate the amazing work our artists have produced.
We are so proud of all the artists who participated, and we look forward to seeing even more outstanding work in the future. Keep creating, Fremont!
Wrapping Up the Year: December Highlights & Happenings
Fremont High Hosts Grand Opening of New Teen Center: Fremont High School celebrated the opening of its new Teen Center last Friday, the fourth of its kind in Weber School District. The center, designed to support students facing challenges like homelessness and food insecurity, reflects the district's commitment to student well-being.
The ceremony began with a welcome from Emily Oyler, Executive Director of the Weber School Foundation, followed by a musical performance from the Fremont High Choir. Superintendent Gina Butters spoke emotionally about the impact of Teen Centers, emphasizing their role as spaces where students feel seen and supported. Principal Alicia Mitchell encouraged students to make use of the center as a place for connection.
Steve Kier, Chair of the Teen Center Committee, highlighted the journey from the first Teen Center at Two Rivers High School to the district-wide expansion. He thanked key donors and partners, including the Policy Project and the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation.
The ceremony also featured Fremont High’s cheerleaders and student government, and guests enjoyed self-guided tours, tacos, and sweet treats. The new Teen Center stands as a symbol of community support, ensuring students have the resources they need to thrive.
Our very own automotive technology instructor, Arne Erisoty, has been named Weber School District’s "I Love Teaching" award winner for January. With over 30 years of experience, including three decades at Fremont, Arne has made a lasting impact on his students and the community.
Known for his passion, selflessness, and dedication, Arne is admired by both students and colleagues. "Arne genuinely cares about his students and their success," said Dr. Rod Belnap, CTE Director.
Arne's hands-on teaching approach equips students with practical automotive skills, from changing tires to replacing brake pads, while emphasizing professionalism, safety, and innovation. His influence extends beyond technical knowledge, instilling pride and confidence in his students.
Colleagues praise his enthusiasm and willingness to help others, and many former students credit him for their successful automotive careers. For Arne, the greatest reward is seeing his students grow and succeed.
We are so proud of Arne for his exceptional contributions to our school and community and many students he has helped and influenced.
Congratulations to our cheer team for securing 1st place in sideline/timeout cheer at their first competition of the season! We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication. Here’s to a successful and exciting season ahead!
A Gatsby-Themed Classroom Celebration
In Shae Tervort's 11th grade English class, they're diving into The Great Gatsby. To celebrate the narrator’s first Gatsby Party in Chapter 3, they hosted their own Gatsby-inspired event with a bubble machine, 20s music, and soda (to stay true to the Prohibition Era, of course!). She even dressed up to make the experience extra fun. Here’s a photo from our class celebration!
NHS Advisor Colette Remy Reflects on a Successful December of Service
"As we wrap up December, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your support and collaboration with the NHS Officers and its members. This month has been incredibly busy as we planned our Christmas activities and announced our Veteran Shoe Box Drive. Thanks to the hard work of our Officers and the generous donations from our community, we collected and assembled over 30 shoe boxes filled with warm winter clothing, toiletries, and card games.
Following this successful collection, we hosted our Christmas party, where we tied blankets for the Primary Children's Hospital and created festive Christmas cards. It was heartwarming to see our NHS members come together and make a significant impact this holiday season.
Thank you once again for your continued support, which helps us create such meaningful experiences for our students and the community."
Robotics:
Our robotics team had their first competition for the season. Teams 55117J, 55117K, and 55117Y competed and all qualified for the final rounds. Team 55117J made it to the quarterfinals before they were eliminated. It was a tough, but fun competition. We are excited to see what happens next!
STEM Expo:
A group of students participated in the STEM Expo. Students listened to panels speak about their career interests and visited multiple booths. They talked with companies about employment opportunities, schooling requirements, scholarships, internships, and so much more. Some booths had hands-on learning opportunities. Matt Christensen practiced his welding skills with a virtual machine! Other students tested out Autoliv's seat belt safety ride.
Cheer Team Shines at Divisionals and USA Competition
Our cheer team has had an incredible season so far! They earned 3rd place overall at Divisionals and are heading to the State Championships on Wednesday, the 22nd. At the USA competition, they took home two first-place trophies and a 2nd place in their show routine, plus 5th out of 13 teams for their game day performance.
We are SO proud of their hard work and achievements. Their final competition is on February 1st at Weber State University, starting at 4 pm. We would love your support as they compete one last time this season!
Fremont FFA recently hosted its annual Agriscience Fair, featuring 127 projects across various categories including plant science, animal science, food products, social sciences, natural resources, and power systems. November Vibes: Falling into Fun & Festivities!
This Christmas time, the library teamed up with the art department to get gifts for all of our SilverPups! Each pup received a copy of the classic Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman. Reading is a critical skill that needs to be fostered early!
The art department recruited students to design and wrap each of the gifts! The SilverPups were ecstatic to see the presents! They most definitely look up to the awesome highschoolers that made the artwork on their gifts.
ProStart Students Master Culinary Skills at November Training!
In November, our ProStart students had the incredible opportunity to attend a student training event in Provo, where they sharpened their culinary skills and learned from professional chefs. The students worked hands-on to create a meal using specific ingredients, focusing on plating techniques and presentation. They were critiqued by experienced chefs, gaining valuable feedback to refine their skills. Additionally, students practiced essential knife cutting techniques and learned the art of plating desserts. It was a fantastic learning experience that helped our future chefs grow their confidence and expertise in the kitchen!
We're kicking off the season with some exciting news—our cheer team took 1st place in Sideline/Timeout Cheer at their very first competition of the year! Their hard work, energy, and teamwork truly paid off, and we couldn't be more proud of their achievement. With such an impressive start, we’re looking forward to an incredible season ahead! Keep cheering, team!
In Shae Tervort's 11th-grade English class, students are diving into the world of The Great Gatsby! In Chapter 3, the narrator attends his first extravagant Gatsby party and has the chance to meet the elusive Gatsby himself. To celebrate this iconic moment, they their own Gatsby-inspired party in class! Complete with a bubble machine, '20s music, and soda (a nod to the Prohibition Era, of course), the atmosphere was full of excitement. Ms. Tervort even dressed up for the occasion! Check out the fun photo from our class celebration. It was a fantastic way to bring the novel to life and immerse ourselves in the glamour of the 1920s!
Art Students' Creativity Takes Flight with 'Up' Themed Chicken Coop!
The art department was recently tasked with designing a one-of-a-kind chicken coop, and students rose to the challenge! We held a small competition in a few of the art classes, and the winning design came from Allyssa Governale. October Highlights: Falling into Cozy Days and Spooky Nights!
This month, the English Department provided sophomores with a unique and impactful way to engage with history. As part of their preparation for reading Night by Elie Wiesel, students embarked on a virtual field trip to several significant Holocaust sites using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology.
Through VR headsets, students visited the front gates of Auschwitz, toured the gas chambers at Dachau, and paid their respects at the tombstone of Anne and Margot Frank. These immersive experiences took students to locations that are pivotal in understanding the profound tragedy of the Holocaust.
While the excitement of using cutting-edge VR technology was palpable, the mood quickly shifted as students began to grasp the magnitude of the history they were witnessing. As they "stood" at these historic sites, many were moved by the sobering reality of the atrocities that occurred there.
This innovative VR field trip offered a deeper, more personal connection to the events they will soon explore in Night. By integrating these technologies, the English department not only brought history to life but also provided a powerful learning experience that will resonate with students long after they’ve turned the page of Wiesel’s haunting memoir.
Art Department: Creativity in Full Bloom!
The Art Department has been buzzing with creativity this month, showcasing the incredible talents of our students in a variety of mediums. From detailed drawings to stunning jewelry pieces, our students have truly embraced the artistic process and have produced work that inspires and impresses.
In the classroom, students have been hard at work refining their drawing skills, experimenting with different techniques, and bringing their imaginations to life on paper. From intricate sketches to vibrant compositions, the drawings created by our students reflect both their dedication and their unique artistic voices.
But the creativity doesn't stop there! Our jewelry-making students have been crafting beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces, learning the art of design and metalworking. The delicate necklaces, bracelets, and rings they've produced demonstrate incredible attention to detail and craftsmanship. Each piece is a testament to the skill and passion our students bring to their art.
In addition to their classroom work, several of our talented students participated in the W.O.W. Art Show at the District Office, an event that brought together artwork from across the district. Our students proudly displayed their creations, representing the incredible talent nurtured in our Art Department. The show was a great success, with students receiving praise for their creativity, technical skills, and innovative ideas.
The Art Department continues to be a place of exploration, growth, and self-expression. We can't wait to see what our students create next as they continue to push the boundaries of their artistic potential! Keep up the great work!
Hope Squad’s Spookygrams Fundraiser: Spreading Holiday Cheer Early!
This October, Hope Squad organized a fun and festive Spookygrams fundraiser to raise money for the Christmas Jubilee Tree and the K4K basket at Fremont. The event was a spooky success, bringing the school community together to support a great cause while celebrating the Halloween season!
Students and teachers purchased Spookygrams, special Halloween-themed notes and treats, which Hope Squad members carefully labeled and delivered to recipients just before Halloween. The excitement and smiles were contagious as the Spookygrams spread holiday cheer to friends, teachers, and staff throughout the school.
Not only did the fundraiser bring a touch of fun to the season, but it also helped raise vital funds for important holiday initiatives. The money raised will go toward providing gifts for the Christmas Jubilee Tree and supporting the K4K basket, ensuring that families in need can enjoy a little extra joy this holiday season.
A big thank you to all the students, teachers, and Hope Squad members who helped make this event a success! Your generosity and spirit of giving are truly appreciated, and we look forward to seeing how this fundraiser continues to brighten the holidays for those in need.
September and October were action-packed months for our Aquaculture, Natural Resources, and AP Biology classes, filled with outdoor learning experiences that brought the natural world to life.
In September, students had the incredible opportunity to witness the Kokanee salmon run at Causey Reservoir. This immersive field trip took them on a nearly 5-mile hike, where they observed the amazing migration and spawning process of these fish. Students from both Mountain View and Wahlquist Jr. Highs joined in on this experience, making it a memorable day of collaboration and learning.
Later in the month, Aquaculture students visited the Logan and Mantua DWR Fish Hatcheries, as well as the USU College of Natural Resources. The trip gave them firsthand insight into the important work being done in fish conservation and management, as well as a deeper understanding of the science behind aquaculture.
October continued the outdoor adventures with exciting electrofishing research. Students ventured to North Fork (Ogden River) and Wheeler Creek near Huntsville to participate in research using electrofishing techniques. This hands-on experience allowed students to learn more about fish populations, water quality, and ecosystem health, while applying their classroom knowledge to real-world environmental science.
These experiences are invaluable for our students, connecting them to the natural world and giving them the opportunity to engage in meaningful scientific research. We’re excited to see how these outdoor adventures will continue to inspire and shape their understanding of biology and environmental science!

National Honor Society News: Celebrating Excellence and Leadership
The NHS officers kicked off the year with an energizing retreat that set the tone for our upcoming activities. We began by tackling a ropes course, which was both a fun and effective way to build teamwork and get to know each other better. We then dedicated several hours to planning our future events and fundraisers. The retreat concluded with an engaging Escape Room activity that further strengthened our collaborative skills. Additionally, our NHS members volunteered at the Weber County Fair, where we assisted with cleaning tables and managing children’s games.
