The purpose of learning targets :

•  to communicate the Utah Core Standard of English Language Arts to teachers, parents, and students

•  to identify essential skills that EVERY child will be proficient in before leaving the grade level  

  • common formative assessments will be used to assess essential skills

  • intervention will be provided to ensure every student has the time and support needed to be proficient in these skills 

The fifth grade learning targets and skill levels were developed during the 2018-2019 school year.  During this time groups of teacher-leaders, Curriculum Fellows, and all fifth grade teachers throughout Weber School District were given multiple opportunities to provide feedback on these targets. 

The learning targets are the basis of teaching, assessing, and reporting in all WSD fifth grade classrooms.
