What does that mean? Well, DECA is for students who want to pursue marketing, business, entrepreneurship, small business management, merchandising, fashion, sports marketing, sales, and many other professional careers related to the management and operations of a business.
All you need to be in DECA is 1) interest, 2) willingness to try something new, and 3) a competitive fire.
1) Role Plays: The topics have to do with business and marketing situations that most people encounter at work or as consumers. You may be a manager of a restaurant dealing with a bad meal… a sports franchise negotiating with a hotel… a salesperson up-selling the store credit card. Role plays are fun and give you the ability to do something new for 10 minutes… and win!
2) WRITTEN Business Plans: These plans are typically written in class and reflect that student’s interest in opening or running a particular business. The business plans are scored as part of the competition, as are the 10 minute presentation to the judges. This competition is only done at State and Nationals.
3) Chapter Projects: Chapter Project Management projects include six different areas, including Community Giving and Career Development. If you are interested in these types of competitions, talk to one of the DECA Officers this year and get involved.
DECA is a fun opportunity for you to get involved in school, win some awards, possibly earn a scholarship, and develop some skills to pad your resume! It is never too late to start!
Applications for the DECA Board Officers are available from Mr. Pollard in room B126 or from Mrs. Pollard in room B228. The Applications are due by Friday following LABOR DAY!
