Two-Footed Jumping
When working on jumping with two feet, remember the following:
Place your feet shoulder width apart
Bend your knees as your arms are brought back behind your body
Keep your head up and eyes looking out in front of you
During your jump, takeoff with two feet at the
same
time
As you leave the ground, extend yours arms forcefully forward and upward
Do your best to land on two feet
Upon landing, bend your knees and bring your arms downward to help reduce the impact of your jump
Hopping on One Foot
When hopping on one foot, remember the following:
Maintain your nonsupport leg behind your body
Have your arms at your sides, bent at your elbows
Pump your arms and legs in unison when hopping forward to help produce force
Be sure to practice on both sides.
Galloping
When practicing your gallop pattern, remember the following:
A gallop is a forward facing movement.
Your lead foot stays in the front while your back foot stays in the back.
Don't cross your feet or have them switch places.
Keep your arms bent at the elbows and moving at your sides.
Skipping
When practicing skipping remember the following:
A skip is a forward moving step-hop pattern.
The movement is a heel-toe rolling step, followed immediately with a hop on the same foot.
The pattern is then completed on the other foot.
The pattern is a rhythmical one, moving from one let to the other in a fluid motion.
Leaping
When practicing your leaping skills, remember the following:
When leaping forward, take off of one foot and land on the other.
You should have a longer stride when leaping than when running.
Remember to reach forward and extend your arms out in front of you.
Sliding
When practicing the slide, remember the following:
The slide is a sideways moving locomotor skill, maintained on the balls of your feet.
The lead foot takes a step out to the side and is followed by the other foot closing the distance.
Your feet should never cross and it's important to have your hips and shoulders facing sideways at all times.
