The Diversity Inclusion Group, founded on values of empathy, compassion, and respect, is a safe space for students of minority backgrounds to share their experiences, challenges, and successes. Discussions conclude with a positive and solution-based focus.
In weekly meetings, led by a neutral moderator, students participate in sharing experiences with one another. Through these sessions, students will feel empowered in their educational journey and make meaningful connections with others who share a background or identity. All students are welcome to participate in discussions with respect and compassion for other students.
As the next generation of leaders, we unite with hope, holding high expectations for future equality and productive steps for change. The Diversity Group follows a problem-solution format as we present practical solutions to our peers, teachers, administrators, and representatives. Student members partake in a number of activities, events, and projects that increase awareness for and progress towards equity for all students within the school.
The group of students is united in their passion for social justice and equity among all people. We strongly believe in the first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”
The diversity inclusion group is a club of Wachusett Regional High School students who come together weekly to discuss and take action for local issues of inequity and injustice. The group is student-founded and student-led.
The group is not affiliated with a political party or organization. Students share the belief that change is necessary to address systematic injustice. All opinions are respected and heard.
In September 2020, after the nation-wide renewed call for social justice, the group was founded by Kate Mangus (class of 2021) and Isabella LeBlanc (class of 2022). The two students were able to connect with a similar mindset of advocating for all students. Soon thereafter, Mrs. Waire, a freshman seminar teacher, agreed to help as the club advisor.
