Kristine Yont Cain

I live in Holden with my husband, our three children, and our two dogs. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University, and a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. After working for several years, I went back to school for my doctorate and graduated with a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences & Disorders from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. My previous work experience includes being an SLP at the Kennedy Krieger Institute of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital in Baltimore, MD. While there, I was part of a multi-disciplinary evaluation team who diagnosed children from around the country & provided treatment suggestions and recommendations for school placement. I also did home-based and hospital-based evaluations & treatment with children and families who presented with a multitude of language and academic difficulties. During my doctoral program, I worked in Penn State’s Speech & Hearing Clinic and supervised graduate students who tested and treated children and adults with communication impairments, & I taught undergraduate courses in speech & language disorders. Most recently, I wrote and received grants through the National Institutes of Health and conducted research on risk factors for language disorders in young children at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education with Dr. Catherine Snow. While at Harvard, I also taught courses in language acquisition, & published research on childhood language disorders. All three of my children attended Mayo School and I am thrilled to be back working with wonderful colleagues and families.
