I am looking forward to a great year together. I can't wait to see you in our Google Classroom and Live Google Meet classes. We will be meeting synchronously, and will be spending our class time looking at art and making art together. I have included the Google Classroom and Google Meet join-up codes, as well as the Art Supply List below. We will be using basic supplies for all projects. Please plan to have these supplies nearby for our class time. Thank you and please reach out with any questions. I love hearing from you.

Hello Houghton Artists,
What an unforgettable school year it has been! Thank you for making my first year teaching art at Houghton so special. I am proud of you all and proud of the beautiful art that you created in the art room and at home during our remote learning time. Here is a video highlighting some of the moments we shared this year in the art room. Houghton students, you have touched my heart!
Have a wonderful summer, be well, and keep on creating!

Hello Houghton artists! Here we are, wrapping up our last week of school. I am SO proud of you for working hard during our remote learning time together and continuing to create amazing art. Thank you for sharing your art, sending emails, and reaching out in our Google classroom. Check out the Google document to find three fun art projects that you can begin this last week of school OR think about trying out at some point over the summer. Meanwhile, I will be sharing a video of our year in art together later this week, so please check back to our classroom to see the post on Thursday!
Hello Students and Families, I am excited to share the Youth Art Month virtual exhibit with you. Please join me in congratulating the WRSD K-8 artists, and especially our seven Houghton artists (their names and artwork can be viewed in the slideshow), who have artwork on display in the Bowes Gallery at Wachusett Regional High School.
Hello Friends! You might have noticed a few pets making guest appearances these last few weeks in our teaching videos...well, these very Special Agent Pets are excited to be in the spotlight this week for our ANIMALS theme!
Check out the drawing guide right here and click on the videos below to learn how to draw Pet Agents Foxy, Tenon, and Mia. I have also included a drawing sheet (on the last page of the Google document) that you can print and color in their honor.
Do you have a favorite pet or kind of animal that you would like to draw? Scroll on down to find more animal draw along videos and resources. I would love to hear about your favorite animal and see your animal drawings.
Feel free to share some of your practice (or final) animal sketches with me in Google classroom. Have fun!!!
Check out Art Hub for Kids! They have an entire playlist for drawing different kinds of animals.
A short video (for all ages) that shows lots of examples of Andy Goldsworthy's Land Art. How many elements of art can you spot?
A short documentary (best for 3rd and 4th graders) that shows Andy Goldsworthy working in his studio – the great outdoors! You can see his process as he works and see art being created right before your eyes!
First of all, your rainbow art is BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for bringing so much joy and hope to our entire school and community by sharing your art and your heart. As we continue to make rainbows and spread positive messages around Sterling this week, our theme is Home / Community.
The Google Document has a few home / community-themed art projects that you can choose from. If you haven’t had the opportunity yet, please create your rainbow art this week. You can look at last week’s lesson for ideas and inspiration.
ALSO, PLEASE CONTINUE TO SEND US YOUR RAINBOW PHOTOS! Do you and your family want to be part of a video photo montage we will be creating at the end of the rainbow project (after May 15th)? If so, please send photos of your rainbows and/or your children and family with rainbows to: kate_blehar@wrsd.net. Thank you!
We are very excited to be kicking off our community rainbow project this week at Houghton! This week's art lesson is to create a rainbow with a message of hope (In this together, Let’s all be well, Houghton Together, etc.). After you have created your rainbow art, please hang it on your front door or window to spread hope and positivity to our community.
I have included a video and project page below with a few ideas on how to make a rainbow. You can also check out my reading of How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow. Thank you for spreading JOY through your art! We can't wait to see your rainbows!
