John Dalton was a British school teacher and is known as the Father of Modern Atomic Theory. He came up with five statements to describe the properties of matter. These statements were supported by three scientifically proven Laws.

In an isolated system, mass can neither be created nor destroyed during chemical reactions or physical transformations.
Joseph Proust
A chemical compound always contains exactly the same proportion of elements by mass, regardless of the size or source of the sample.
John Dalton
When two elements combine with each other to form more than one compound, the weights of one element that combine with a fixed weight of the other are in a ratio of small whole numbers.
