Beginning with future graduating classes, students are asked to complete 10 volunteer community service hours each school year as part of graduation readiness.
Students may volunteer with any approved local nonprofit, school, church, civic, or community organization. A great starting point is the Volunteer Opportunities spreadsheet and links available below. Hours do not count if they are:
Court-ordered community service
Paid employment
Required for participation on a team or as part of a class (Concessions or Husker Harvest, for example). You can volunteer for these events, but your team or class cannot directly benefit from the proceeds.
Babysitting for immediate family
Routine household chores
Work completed for a family business
Activities completed without adult supervision or verification
Students must:
Complete at least 10 unpaid volunteer hours each school year. Special recognition will be given to those completing additional hours.
Get approval from a parent/guardian when needed.
Bring the verification form to the volunteer site.
Have the supervising adult sign the verification form.
Turn the completed verification form in to the school counselor/community service coordinator
See volunteer Opportunities list below - sort by location, service category, etc...
