Classroom Exploration
6th grade students will have exploratory experiences in four classes which will give them exposure to six of the career clusters, as well as career pathways within those clusters. The classes and clusters include:
Music: Arts, A/V Technology & Communication Career Cluster (performing arts)
Science: Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources Career Cluster
Computer Applications: Information Technology Career Cluster
Family & Consumer Science: Hospitality & Tourism Career Cluster, Human Services Career Cluster, Education & Training Cluster
Students will do a reflection about each cluster in which they will answer the following questions. Responses to these questions will be uploaded to their Xello storyboard.
*What career interests you in that career cluster?
*How does this career match your interests?
*What did you like about this cluster?
*What didn’t you like about this cluster?
ACP Time
During the first term of 6th grade students will have multiple ACP opportunities. During this time students learn what the career clusters are, explore the pathways associated within each cluster, and what they can do to prepare for careers. Students begin developing their ACP plan, learn to use the Xello software, and learn to set SMART goals.
Students will take two assessments within Xello, Matchmaker & My Skills and Learning Styles assessment. In the Matchmaker & My Skills assessment students will answer questions about their likes and dislikes to find careers that match up with their interests. In the Learning Styles assessment students will discover how they learn and retain information and find tips on how to improve their study habits to suit their learning style.
Counselor/Conferencing Time
During 6th grade, all students and their parents will be invited to attend a group Academic and Career Planning Conference. Some of the topics covered will include academic support, SMART goals and career readiness. Students will have the opportunity to show their parents what they have saved in Xello and explain their "Careers for Me Plus" results.
Mr. Chip is the counselor for all 6th grade students.
Co-Curriculars
WRAMS offers a variety of co-curricular activities that allow for student participation beyond the normal school day. These activities allow students additional opportunities to develop their talents in activities beyond the classroom. We encourage all of our students to become involved in the wide range of activities WRAMS has to offer.
Benefits of Co-Curricular Involvement:
Co-Curricular activities provide opportunities for character development and valuable life lessons - teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline and hard work. These are qualities students need if they are to become responsible adults, productive citizens and skilled professionals.
Studies have indicated that students involved in co-curricular activities are more likely to have:
Higher GPAs
Higher college admission test scores
Better attendance
Lower dropout rates
Fewer discipline referrals
Information regarding co-curriculars can be found on the WRAMS website:
