In honor of Banned Books Week (October 5-11), the DC-Maryland Chapter of Writers for Democratic Action is hosting a free public reading of censored poetry from all ages and cultures.
This fun and freewheeling event with a serious side takes place October 9, 6.30-8.30 p.m., at the funky and charming Meander Art Bar in Baltimore’s Upper Fells Point. The food is terrific and the cocktails are magical.
Readers are welcome!
If you’d like to read a poem from our suggested list (you’re responsible for obtaining the text) or read a short transgressive poem of your own, please join us. We’ll have a sign-up sheet at the door and will cram in as many readings as we can.
So that we may include as many readers as possible, readings will be capped at five minutes. Choose excerpts wisely. Time allowing, you may read twice.
Listeners are also welcome!
You don’t need to read to participate. Simply come to listen to and cheer for your favorite banned poems.
