I’m excited to be involved in your learning this year! This website is designed to support students and parents navigate learning this year - at school and at home. There are so many ways we will communicate (Google Classroom, Email, Twitter, Google Meet ...) that as a parent myself, I know it can feel overwhelming to keep track of what does what. I hope that you'll find the site helpful in our learning journey together.
Please use the header navigation to learn a little bit more about me and our classroom.
In an effort to cut down on the amount of paper we use, there will be no hard copy newsletters or monthly calendars sent home. All information will be made available online on our class website, School Day, or by email. From time to time paper notices will go home, however, the majority of the information from myself and the school will be electronic.
I'm Mrs. Schnarr and I've been a proud WTT Trailblazer since September 2015. I'm starting Year 14! as an educator - with much of my time spent at the Junior and Intermediate levels. I love the conversations we get to have, and I love learning with students at this stage of their development! Since arriving at WTT, I've spent my time teaching Grades 4-6 French Immersion English. I am excited to learn all about Grade 4/5 with you!
I am very passionate about learning: I have spent a lot of time focusing on Special Education, Math, and Reading, finding ways to support students to develop critical literacy skills for the 21st Century. I've spent the last few summers focusing my own personal learning on becoming a Reading Specialist, finding new strategies for supporting Math thinking in our classroom, developing interconnected reading and writing strategies, equity, and critical thinking skills to support students in class and online. I'm really looking forward to putting some of these strategies in place in the classroom this year!
One of my favourite things to do is read! I love trips to Indigo and the KPL and was able to explore a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles this summer. I hope to share my love of reading with my students over the year through read alouds, our classroom library, and book recommendations!
I live in Kitchener with my husband, my two kids, and my dog. We love going for bike rides, playing baseball (we are BIG Blue Jays fans!), watching footballs, swimming, and playing board games!
For me, the best thing we can do as a teacher-parent-student combo is communication! Please fill out our Parent Homework Form - it helps me get to know your student from your perspective - you know them best! September will be spent re-establishing routines, setting up our classroom community, and supporting each other as we navigate this shift in teachers, classrooms, and classmates.
Please reach out if I can help in any way - by email or phone ... we will do our best to figure things out! I look forward to keeping connected with all families this year!
Let's have an amazing 2023 - 2024 school year!
Mrs. Schnarr
