As we build our classroom community, many of our discussions at the beginning of the year help us map out what we need to be safe, successful, and supported students and teachers.
One of the MAJOR foundations of our classroom is respect and it works in a lot of different ways:
Respecting teachers, classmates, staff, custodians, and other people who enter our learning space. We show respect with our actions, our bodies, and our words are very important skills EVERY day.
Respecting our classroom space - the materials, the technology, the equipment, the books, etc - shows that we value the opportunity to use these tools each day.
Being mindful of our hook and desk space - keeping it organized and tidy, bringing essential materials out as required, cleaning our work area, etc - show respect to those around us.
Be true to who you are. Be creative, be honest, and believe in yourself and what you can or can not do ... yet! Having a growth mindset, resilience, and flexibility are great skills to develop in and out of the classroom!
My philosophy as a teacher (and as a parent) is to help set kids up for success and to have their best day possible. Students should not have to carry past mistakes into class every day and will always have the opportunity to make changes to their actions and their choices. It is important that students take ownership of their actions and make apologies or face consequences as needed.
Our Classroom runs on the acronym (and the key word) GRIT!
Growth Mindset
Respect
Integrity
Teamwork
Throughour the school year we will have a variety of GRIT Challenges to improve our ability to work as a team, respect each other, and further develop our growth mindset. We can do ANYTHING with the right MINDSET!
