OPHEA Open Class Lesson- Lesson One
Please note at HPS we have worked on the fundamental movement skill of overhand throwing as well so students should practice those teaching points as well as they are not clarified in the OPHEA video for overhand throwing.
Proper Overhand Throwing Skills
Stand sideways to target.
Elbow to elbow (bar) should be a straight line. (Don't drop elbows, they should be a straight line elbow to elbow)
Front arm is a flat “L”, back arm is a tall “L”.
Throwing arm should be positioned farther from the target and have the ball face away from target. We call this the cobra.
Step with closest leg towards target.
Lead with throwing arm’s elbow.
Follow through with hand in front of the eye.
Remember if you are catching the object to cushion the object by bending arms when receiving the object. (cradle/catch)
