In Grade 1, we have learned most of our vowel and blended vowel sounds to help us with our reading. Many students find the program, Phonétique Animée, useful to help them remember how to pronounce certain sounds/words in French. We have been learning the songs to help us remember French sounds, and apply this knowledge when reading. Please listen to the songs on youtube and use the sounds you know to make sense of the words when you are reading in French.
If you would find it helpful when reading at home, I could send home a copy of our reading chart (see picture). Please let me know!
Below is a copy of our 'mini word-wall' that contains high frequency words that students should know by the end of Grade 1!
Grade 2 and 3 families, if you would like to continue to practice French at home, have students say, read, and write these words!
Grade 1 families, we will get there! Feel free to look over this list with your child but do not worry if they don't know the words. We are currently focussed on building our speaking skills.
Grade 1's and 2's learn to read and write in French using a program called 'Phonétique Animée'. This program helps foster phonetic knowledge in French through songs and stories. A teacher at Seneca Trail PS in the Durham District School Board has transferred this resource onto the internet. Please visit her site to listen to the songs we have been learning at school.
Grade 2's who were with Mme Goulden in Grade 1 will have already learned the majority of these sounds. Grade 1's will be learning them as the year progresses!
Mini TFO (TVO Kids in english) is a great resource for students who already have a base of oral language in French to casually watch French programs or play games in their second (or third!) language!
