How to support your child's writing at home?
Writing is also a very important part of our Language Program. There are lots of ways for children to practise writing at home, whether helping to make a grocery list, writing a Thank you note or making their own storybooks. Please refer to the Writing web below for some other writing ideas you could try at home!
Thoughts on Handwriting:Handwriting is a basic tool that children use in the classroom for expressing their ideas, creating stories etc. Handwriting, reading and spelling skills reinforce each other. If your child is able to write letters easily and clearly, they can spend more time focusing on their message and forming interesting sentences.
In Grade 1 fine motor skills are becoming stronger and children are gaining better control in writing their letters. Children continue to learn the difference between upper and lower case letters and (spelling by sound) is very common.
In Grade 2 &3 a child handwriting may become smaller and neater. Children are beginning to focus more on what they are writing rather than on the mechanics.

Our Homework Philosophy
Our Homework Philosophy
Sometimes families ask us about homework tasks to be completed outside of school hours. We believe that homework should be a meaningful extension of your child’s learning in class. We do not send homework for the sake of sending homework, and encourage our Grade 1's, 2's & 3's to play, be active and enjoy time with their families after school.
This being said, if you wish to encourage a homework routine, consider the graphic 'Tic-Tac-Toe Homework' (http://drjeanandfriends.blogspot.com). With the goal being to get 'three in a row' by the end of the week, children can select tasks to complete at home. This is merely a suggestion if you are looking for homework tasks, and not at all obligatory.
