I am writing to let you know that we will be holding a non-uniform day on Friday 18th March to provide an opportunity for our school community to donate much needed essential items to people of Ukraine who are in desperate need of support. On Friday, pupils will have the option to wear non-uniform and should they wish to, show their support for Ukraine in two ways, as detailed in the attached letter.

Following the removal of all legal COVID-19 restrictions today, I thought you may find it helpful, ahead of your child’s return to school on Monday, for me to provide you with some additional clarity regarding our school’s stance on the removal of the legal duty to self-isolate following a positive COVID-19 test result or following the development of COVID-19 symptoms. Whilst generally I am pleased to see the further easing of restrictions, I am mindful that the virus is still prevalent in our society and as such, in-line with Public Health guidance, I would urge you to continue to show caution in terms of sending your child to school, following a positive COVID-19 test result or following the development of COVID-19 symptoms.

Letter to parents - Consent for Lateral Flow Testing

In-line with recent government guidance, I am writing to confirm the arrangements to offer your child a COVID-19 Lateral Flow Test (LFT) on their return to school following the Christmas holiday.
All pupils will return to school at 8:40am on Wednesday 5th January; there will not be a staggered return, as there has been previously. We ask that all pupils conduct a LFT at home on the evening of Tuesday 4th January, before their return to school and if they show a positive result, that the remain at home, self-isolate and obtain a PCR test. Assuming that they show a negative result and are symptom-free, your child will be able to return to school as normal on Wednesday 5th January at 8:40am.

Pupils in Year 11 have this week had an assembly explaining some of the rules and regulations regarding examinations.
Pupils have also taken part in workshops for revision study skills. The workshop was delivered to support pupils in the run up to their mock examinations next week and their GCSEs.

Children in Need Fundraising

Children in Need is taking place on Friday 19th November 2021
For Children In Need this year we are asking pupils to dress in fancy dress or in mufti. We would love everyone to participate. There will be prizes for fancy dress.
Our dress rules still apply - pupils will not be allowed to wear any ‘inappropriate clothing’ – crop tops, shorts, short skirts. Pupils will not be able to colour their hair or have ‘extra’ piercings, in accordance with our normal school rules.
Pupils will pay £1 for wearing their own clothes. Money be collected during registration by Form Tutors. All money raised will go to Children in Need. Thanks in advance for your support.

Urgent letter to parents - school closed until September

I am writing to let you know that having just spoken at length with Dudley LA and our Public Health Protection Team, I have taken the decision to close the school to pupils on Friday 16th July, Monday 19th July and Tuesday 20th July. In effect this means that your child will now not return to school until September. The decision has not been taken lightly, however, it has the full backing of Dudley LA and our Public Health Protection Team, who advise me on such matters.

It's coming home - non-uniform day
Thursday 8th July 2021
To celebrate the success of the England team and to cheer them on in the final, we are going to have a non-uniform day tomorrow for all pupils. The theme is red and white to support our team (unless of course we have any Italian pupils who wish to celebrate!).
Our usual rules apply regarding no crop tops, short shorts and jewellery. We also wish to remind pupils that they cannot wear open toed shoes for health and safety reasons.

From Monday 5th July, we will be trialling a change in our position on mobile phones. From this date, pupils will be allowed to bring a mobile phone to school. However, the phone is to be swithed off and not used while on the school site.

Letter to parents regarding the self-isolation of pupils in Year 8

It is with regret that I am writing to inform you that having liaised with Dudley Local Authority and Public Health England (PHE), the decision has been made to ask all pupils in Year 8 to self-isolate until the end of Sunday 13th June. In view of this, Year 8 pupils should return to school at 8:40am on Monday 14th June and not on Monday 7th June. Pupils in Year 7, 9 and 10 will return to school as normal on Monday 7th June.

Whilst in lockdown pupils were set a challenge of capturing nature in their local area. We received nearly a hundred entries which made the job of picking the best from each house a very hard task. The winning picture from each house was then voted on by staff to pick the overall winner. Winners were George Sparshott (Stuart) Jessica Lavender (Tudor) Lily Compton (Doulton) and Violet Foster (Webb). The voting was very close with Violet Foster being crowned as the overall winner. Each runner up received a £10 voucher and the winner a £20 voucher. Well done to all who entered, also special mention to Miss Timothy who won the staff photography competition.

Design an Easter Egg competition

Pupils were asked to design an Easter Egg using a blank template. After many entries, each Head of House picked their favourite design. Our remote learning provision will continue as it is currently taking place up to and including Friday 5th March 2021
For Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th, work will be set for pupils on Satchel One but there will be no live element to lessons
Appointments for Lateral Flow Tests will be sent out this week, and pupils in Years 10 and 11 will be tested on Monday 8th March; Years 8 and 9 will be tested on Tuesday 9th March and Year 7 will be tested on Wednesday 10th March. Consent from parents needs to be completed by noon on Wednesday 3rd March - the links are in the letter.
All pupils will return to school on Thursday 11th March, with Year 11 returning at 8.30am; Year 10 at 9am; Year 9 at 9.30am; Year 8 at 10am and Year 7 at 10.30am. They will have a welcome back assembly with Mr Burton before beginning lessons.
The school day will follow the same format as September with Years 7 and 11 arriving at 8.30am and leaving at 2.55pm; Years 8 and 10 arriving at 8.40am and leaving at 3.05pm; Year 9 arriving at 8.50am and leaving at 3.15pm.
Further lateral flow tests will take place in school, with the last scheduled day being Thursday 18th March.
Pupils will be provided with at home test kits to be completed on Sundays and Wednesdays until Easter.
Face coverings must be worn at all times in the school building unless medically exempt.
The rota for Pastoral Time will continue on Friday's for this term. The dates for each year group are in the letter.

Wellbeing Fridays

We are also introducing ‘Wellbeing Fridays’: two days during the month of February where pupils (and staff!) will be asked to put their screens away. On these two days, rather than their usual daily remote learning, pupils will not be set work by their teacher and instead they will be asked to engage in a choice of different activities, in a bid to promote mental health and wellbeing by actively encouraging pupils and staff to keep their devices switched off for the day.

Update following new National Lockdown

We have written to parents with details including:
Attendance at school. School is closed to pupils until at least Friday 12th February. In line with government guidance, the only children that will be permitted to attend school are children of critical workers and vulnerable children.
Remote Learning. Pupils will be set work for each of their normal lessons on Satchel:One. In the majority of cases, pupils may also need to use Google Classroom. For help with remote learning, please click here.
Free School Meals. We are currently working with the Local Authority to make vouchers available for those parents, whose children are entitled to FSM. Please expect further contact regarding this over the next few days.
IT Provision. Please let us know if your child is unable to access the work on Satchel:One and we can arrange for a pack of work to be printed for you to collect. If your child has access to the internet, but does not have access to a computer, we may be able to support you with this.

Flood damage update

I am delighted to confirm that we have managed to restore the affected areas to a point where we can continue to welcome pupils back into school as normal tomorrow. Just to be clear, all pupils in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 should continue to attend school as normal tomorrow and beyond.

Flood damage update

There has been significant damage caused by the flood and I am completely indebted to my site team for the inordinate amount of work that has been undertaken on Sunday and yesterday. I am pleased to confirm that all pupils in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 should return to school as normal today. Pupils in Year 7 should continue to self-isolate until Monday 14th December.

Partial School Closure - Monday 7th December

Last night, the school suffered a serious leak in one of our buildings resulting in widespread flooding in one part of the school. As a result of this, the only safe decision I am able to make is to completely close this section of our school to enable the damage to be assessed and the necessary repairs to get underway.

Covid-19 Update to Parents

It is with regret that I am writing to inform you that having liaised with the Department for Education and Public Health England, the decision has been made to ask all pupils in Year 7 to self-isolate for a period of 14 days. In view of this, Year 7 pupils should return to school at 8:30am on Monday 14th December.

GCSE Certificates
Tuesday 24th November 2020
GCSE certificates are normally handed out at presentation evening at the end of November but this has, unfortunately, been cancelled. We were hoping that pupils would be able to collect their certificates from school on a pre-booked appointment basis but, as we are now in a very high risk area, this is no longer possible.
All certificates will now be held securely in school until such time as we are able to arrange collections. If you require your certificate urgently, please get in touch and we can arrange a very small number of visits. No certificates will be posted due to their value.

The use of face coverings in school

I am writing with regard to the recent announcement from the government that Dudley will move to tier 2 of the national alert system on Saturday 31st October and an implication of this for your son/daughter’s return to school on Monday 2nd November.
When your son/daughter returns to school on Monday 2nd November, face coverings will be compulsory when they are inside the school building and moving around. Please ensure your son/daughter has a face covering that they can bring to school every day.

Open Evening 2020
Given the most recent government guidance regarding COVID-19, which comes into effect on Monday 14th September, we are replacing our ‘physical’ Open Evening and Open Mornings with a ‘virtual’ Open Evening in the form of a video. I understand what a difficult few weeks you have all been having and am well aware that your move to Wordsley in September might feel a little more challenging given the changes that the current situation have made to our usual Induction programme.
There is an area of our website just for you. There are lots of things that you will hopefully find useful and will help you to answer some of the questions you might have about Wordsley before you start.
Any updates about Induction will be added there and we will keep in contact with your Primary School teachers so that they can let you know any important information too.

GCSE Exam Update
Ofqual, the exams regulator, have published this video to explain to pupils how GCSE results will be awarded this year. They have also announced that GCSE results day will remain on Thursday 20th August. Further details about this will be shared in the coming weeks.

Spain Trip - July 2020
Dear parent/guardian,
I hope that you and your children are safe and well. Due to the current circumstances our planned trip to Spain will not take place this year. When school reopens we will arrange for any money that you have paid towards the trip (apart from the deposit) to be returned to you and we will then apply for a refund of the deposits from either the travel company or our insurance. Free School Meals
On Wednesday 1st April, the government sent details to schools regarding the national voucher scheme for pupils entitled to free school meals. We have been busy registering the school and parents onto this scheme.
The scheme entitles the parents to a £15 voucher each week per child to spend in a supermarket. Parents who have access to a smartphone will receive an email with details of how to access their voucher and, using their smartphone, be able to redeem the voucher at the checkout. For the parents who responded to say they do not have access to a smartphone, a voucher for Asda will be posted to you along with instructions of use.
The government voucher scheme is term-time, meaning vouchers will commence week beginning Monday 20th April.

May I once again emphasise the advice given by the NHS:
You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:
Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household.
Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.
Year 11 Exams
Today, the Government and Ofqual issued updated guidance with regard to the Summer GCSE examinations and how the final grades will be awarded. We have sent an email to parents that contains the national letter and the guidance issued for all pupils and parents of those affected.
After the Easter break, staff will begin to work through the requirements and guidance of the document, in a professional manner, with a regard to ensuring the most accurate and best possible outcomes for our pupils.
As a school we will make sure that our pupils are supported in accessing the next stage of their educational journey.

This is an online counselling service that pupils and parents can access at any time. They are able to offer a range of support for those suffering from anxiety, depression and mental health concerns.
This is an information website that have child and parent areas. It can help you find information out about specific concerns or issues that are occurring at home.

Children services can offer sign posted help for a wide range of issues and worries. They will offer guidance on where to access support.

LETTER TO PARENTS - Are you a key worker?
Thursday 19th March 2020
Years 7, 8 and 10 pupils only to be in school on Friday 20th March. School will close from 3pm on Friday 20th March to most pupils except children of Key Workers and pupils with an EHCP.
Key workers include NHS staff, Police and Delivery Drivers who need to be at work. Further details of Key Workers will be published by the Government later today.
If you are a Key Worker and would like your child to remain in school, could you please contact Reception (01384 816015) before 12.00pm on Friday 20th March so that we can make appropriate arrangements.
We will be sending out further information with regards work to be completed at home tomorrow.

These are difficult times for all, especially young people. As a school, we have a responsibility to support and care for young people and staff while at the same time attempting to retain some resemblance of normality.
School will be closed to Year 9 on Thursday 19th March and Friday 20th March 2020. All other year groups are to attend as normal.
Coronavirus Update
Monday 16th March 2020
The Public Health Authority confirms that the risk of contracting COVID -19 remains low. The experts assure us that the best way to protect ourselves is to follow the Catch it, Bin it, Kill it advice and to wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
We will be continually reminding pupils of the importance of washing hands, with posters being displayed around the school.
The site team are checking soap levels in the toilets and we have asked pupils to inform Reception if any soap dispensers are nearing empty.
In addition all door handles are being cleaned regularly with antibacterial spray.

"It is with a mixture of emotions that I wish to inform you that both Mr and Mrs Lambert will retire from their posts as Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher respectively with effect from 31st August 2020. Both members of staff have made this decision with heavy hearts but feel passionately that they are leaving the school at its zenith in terms of the quality of teaching and learning, the strongest team of senior leadership members and the highest calibre of both teaching and non-teaching staff in the history of the school."
