The learner portfolio is a cumulative record of student learning and exploration and central element of the course. It is intended to provide a focus for the development of a student's skills and knowledge in relation to literature throughout the course. The learner portfolio provides a space for the student to:

●Explore and reflect formally and informally on literary texts and the connections between them through a variety of critical and creative responses.
● Develop conceptual learning and international-mindedness by reflecting on the areas of exploration, the seven course concepts, and a variety of global issues.
●Prepare for assessments, making decisions about which texts and which aspects of texts to focus on, and tracking theri coverage of the course requirements.
The Form of the Portfolio
● The learner portfolio is an individual collection of student work compiled during the two years of the course. It must consist of a range of formal and informal responses to the works studied, which may come in a range of critical and/or creative forms, and in different media. It is the student’s own record of discovery and development throughout the course.
● The teacher may monitor and set guidelines for the learner portfolios, but students are encouraged to shape them in ways that allow them to independently record their personal development.
● The type of portfolio the students keep--digital or non-digital, traditional or multimodal -- will be dictated by individual learning preferences. Students are allowed to explore different options freely.
Supporting Assessment
It is expected that the works necessary to meet the requirements in all assessment components will have evolved and been drawn from the contents of the portfolio. Each student’s portfolio shall include at the end the “Works Studied” form detailing the works that have been selected as part of the course and how they have been made to interact with the assessment components.
The portfolio provides students a place to:
● Develop critical and creative responses to the texts, forms, and topics studied
●Plan and write practice assessment responses
● Reflect on their developing skills and knowledge in relation to the assessment requirements
● Track course coverage and make decisions about which texts and topics to focus on for each assessment.
The portfolio also provides evidence of course coverage, academic honesty, and the authenticity of students’ works, and while the portfolio is not formally assessed, it may be required to submit portfolios in cases where such issues need to be investigated.
