Homework

Our goal for homework in First Grade is to begin to help our students to take ownership of their learning. Homework will be minimal, but should be completed by the students independently.

At the beginning of the year, homework will be reading at home for 15 minutes and recording the title of the book. This activity can be reading independently, listening to reading from a friend or family member (not a screen), or partner reading. Recording the title will help your child to get a little writing practice and also to learn to consult the text for spelling.

As the year progresses, the homework activities will change to support learning in the classroom.

The homework that is given will be manageable for your child to complete independently. You are welcome to read with them and talk about their books, but they need to complete the writing on their own and make sure that their reading log is updated daily before 8:20 a.m.
