We will be using a standards based grading system in math. Each trimester we will focus on mastery of specific standards. The goal of this approach is to provide the teacher, student, and parent as accurate a picture as possible of student learning and to encourage a dialogue about how the student can master the material for the class.  

Assignments are usually to complete  practice problems directly related to the lesson we worked on in class. These assignments are usually completed in the classroom. Answers will be provided regularly so that students can check their work and ask questions as needed.  Students will be assigned regular Check Your Understanding (CYU) problems on topics we have recently worked on and/or previously covered. These assignments are checked for completion and will have answers provided so that students may check their understanding and receive immediate feedback.  

Please note that the grade shown and calculated throughout the trimester in Infinite Campus reflects assignment completion only. The final grade will be determined at the end of the trimester using the self-reflection and conferencing.

There will be a Show Your Understanding (SYU) assessment approximately halfway through, and at the end of, each unit. Students will be assessed informally and formally on the common core standards using the following scale:

5 The student can demonstrate mastery, apply the standard in an advanced way and explain it to others. 

4 The student can demonstrate mastery of this standard. 

3 The student has some background knowledge in the fundamental concepts of this standard. 

2 The student has little background knowledge in the fundamental concepts of this standard. 

0 Even with help, the student did not complete this task.
